Hard top advice.

Hi guys, I have been offered a hard top from Valencia which is a bit of a distance. The guy doesn't know if it's off an e85. Are they vastly different to look at? He doesn't have a fixing kit either so are they easy or costly to obtain and fit?

I think it's good value at 500 euro but would need to spray it as it's silver and my car black.

Hope you can help thanks.

Ian

Are you sure you can make the maths work?

The going rate in the UK is around £700 to £800 - OK you need to find one and in the right colour.

Cost in Valencia is £441 (agreed a lot cheaper) but you have to transport it - for free? and by whom? these are easily damaged; paint it; and then find the fittings you need.

I think the OP lives in Spain.
There is only one hard top for an e85 Z4 so not sure what you mean and there is no fitting kit as such, just a tool to lock it onto the car on three points which is basically an allen key.

Hyper I thought about a picture but don't have a hosting account and thought someone might come up with a helpful answer like "if it's not off an e85 what else could it be off?" Which defacto tells me the e89 doesn't have a remove-able hard top. So I suppose we got there without a pic. Forgive me but I'm new to z4's so am on a learning curve.

Firebobby - eww that's a thought lol! Looks rather like a z4 one but.......

David, thanks and yes you are, of course, correct. So, no fitting kit is good news. Looks like it might be a good price then at around 440 of your British pounds. Transport is going to be the issue yes as the seller understandably doesn't want to ship. Be a bit of a run to go and collect. My cousin is passing the area on his way from Calpe to Kent in a week or so. I could always ask him to lash to the roof of his Clio lol!

Thanks guys.

With regards a fitting kit . There is indeed 2 x posts which bolt to the hardtop , these locate into the body and without them you cant fit the hardtop . Just make sure they are on the hardtop . I cant confirm that the holes in which these go into on the body are fitted as standard so you may need to firm up on that . Something tells me they are standard on the euro model but not the usa version . It may be a z3 im thinking off with regards the holes cant be sure . The posts which attached to the hardtop are defo for the z4 as ive got a hardtop and can confirm that . When i got the car the seller had these posts unbolted so as to fit the hardtop in a cover , just be mindful that you need these posts .

Ooh look! I found a way to show images! Was using wallop on app so couldn't get a URL but then got clever.......

Great thanks Marlon, looking at transport costs. Is the accessories kit easy to obtain and/or expensive?

the kit is not easy to find - the side covers are an aesthetically pleasing extra. The owner should have the L shaped tool though because that locks and unlocks the hardtop in place.

Yes they cover where the posts lock in place behind and to the sides of the seats.
