Happy new owner, just a small question

Evening folks, loving my new Zed and everything it entails. However, just have a small query I wanted to throw past the experts!

My clutch. So, it isn't slipping and the car pulls like a train. I don't do dump starts in first gear very often, at all, in order to help the clutch. But, there had to be a but, mainly between 1st and 2nd gear the clutch can be very clunky and makes a rather unrefined rattle noise when I make the change. It seems to be pretty much perfect in every other gear and it doesn't happen all the time, but it is a bit annoying!

Anything serious or any suggestions as to what it might be?

Muchos!

At low speed I can hear mine change gear with a clunk from 1st to 2nd - loud enough that it must be audible from outside the car. Sounds very agricultural, and it takes sone getting used to the motion of it too... however from reading on here I believe it is part of the 'character' of the M gearbox. Some seem to think modifying or removing the CDV helps, others argue that it makes no difference on the M. Ive also read that changing the gearbox oil to Amsoil helps, but I'm not close to doing that yet, I've just learned to live with it for now. Keeps me concentrating on doing it well :D

Delighted to hear you're loving the car though  :driving:

Mine does nearly exactly same. Part of the joys of owning our particular designation of Z4 (see what I avoided doing there?). Took me a while to learn all the new noises, and have had a full BMW health check done on the car, with all faults fixed. They went to town on her, and only a few minor issues. No problems with the drive train etc to report.

Just wait until you drive through a tunnel and hear the tappety engine - sounds like a bag of rattly spanners

Thanks for the reassurance lads! I did think it was something along these lines, the Inspection II was only done 3k ago.

It certainly is a different drive though, it does take a bit of getting used to. But is it fun or is it fun!?! Absolutely love the pull and noise of the engine. Not to mention the car looks awesome.

How much did you pay for your health check at BMW Adamski? If you don't mind me asking.

Oh please - it's a specific question in a specific section of the forum - you need to let it go every once in a while  ... See what I avoided doing there though :P

This happens to me in the outside lane of the A2 on the way home every time I drive it, and elsewhere - noise reflecting back off the central reservation barriers. Gets me every time

Supposedly a trait of an

That's all fair enough then lads. I thought it may be something along these lines as the car drives absolutely fine!
