Happy cruising

Had a very relaxing drive home along the M25/A3 today, thanks to Scooba_Steve fitting cruise control to my Z. Worked like a dream and has made longer trips effortless. Awesome job, thanks mate!

Hmmm. Probably a stoopid question.... How do you guys actually 'use' Cruise.? Let me try to explain.

This is my 1st Zed, it has cruise. Any many other gizmos. My background has been many, many low tech roadster types. So I get on the Mway ping it into cruise at, say, a nice steady and legal 65mph. Fine for 2 mins , then I need to make small adjustments for other motorists, perfectly usual. Do you guys use the paddle for the journey for slowing/increasing speed? My natural response is to always bug out of cruise & use my foot, so not terribly relaxing etc. Please tell me, do I just need to retrain my brain away from the pedal to take proper advantage of cruise, because I do want to like & use it. Or is it some kind of magic witchcraft that folk from my generation are just unaware of.?
Cheers and toodle-pip from the Oldie!

Use the stalk to slow down and accelerate. Obviously not good for sudden big changes of speed! So there is a bit of keeping your eyes on what's happening a reasonable distance ahead. I reckon it's something you need to get used to a bit at first though. It's brilliant if you have a dodgy right knee!!

I love my cruise...its not as easy as my old BMW where the MPH was displayed on the screen, but that said, I find it fun thinking 1 minute ahead to judge my speed and TBH, I'm not usually wrong either. I can go miles without ever having to turn in off, even when it is a little bit busy.

Motorway driving is all about predicting what other drivers are going to do so cruise is perfect for perfecting that..plus I'm a gamer so it kinda feels like playing Playstation, but in real life. ;)

I do enjoy bimbling along at 50-60 mph for long distances, at times. Never use cruise control though, just don't get it. Clearly millions of people love it though. :)

This ^

Also, if you have to brake then the button on the side takes you back up to previous speed. So back to where you were before that someone cut you up!!

Have cruise on my family estate and for trips down to Cambridge it's brilliant. We generally drive late at night so the roads are relatively quiet. The 500 mile round trip is made much easier through it.

Would have liked it on all my Zeds for long journeys when transiting to runs - great for lengthy 50 limits on the motorways as well

Just need the button for side guns as you pass the idiot who cut you up. That or exhaust pipe rockets as you burn them off. ;)

I don't use normally use cruise, but as I have to use the M3 between J2 and J4 at least twice a week and for over 2 years it has had a 50 limit and average speed cameras I just set it for 54 on cruise - no NIPs in the post that way!

I also go to Cheshire now and again, and there is always a reduced limit somewhere on the M42 or M6 so cruise keeps me out of trouble there too!

Otherwise I would find it difficult to stick to 50 or 60 without speed creeping up (oops), especially in my Z4!

 Super handy for those annoying average speed check areas! All too easy to 'creep' up to speeds in excess of 50 or 60!

Cant beat cruise control for long motorway journey - so relaxing :) Great that Scooba_Steve sorted to for you

I have to pass through a lengthy 40 KMh school zone when I drive through Brighton (Ontario), and the only way I can avoid exceeding the limit is to use cruise control. Our local church organist was ticketed while enroute to a service, so it is definitely being enforced. Both the BMW and the Honda have cruise, but the Miata does not, so I am paranoid when driving it through town.

Yep it is, Marlon. Scooba_Steve did a great job and it's a bargain mod I think. Looking forward to a decent long drive now!

Does this system have a speed limiter? Never been a fan of cruise control but I dearly miss a speed limiter on those long 50mph sections on the M1/M6. It's so handy as you can modulate your speed with traffic but you don't need to check your speed every 30 seconds.

No, It's just cruise.

Would love to have this on my Z. Stops me using it sometimes for longer journeys.

So get the bits and fit. It's not difficult just fiddly, or see if anyone who has done it before will help. If you're near London or Yeovil I can do it for you.
