Zed is 7 years old today with me as the original owner.....YAHOO :titshake: :happyclap:
Just given it a treat of oil and brake fluid change. No major issues (well broken springs......). Regular wash and polish using a variety of preparations but always finished with Raceglaze 55 (not cheap but quality doesn't come cheap). Day spent just removing the stonechip marks from the front bumper and she's as good as new. Slight wear on the seat bolsters but just by adjusting how you get in and out to avoid scuffing has saved a lot of wear and tear. Original 108s with no outside corrosion but just a few areas now inside on the rim but not noticeable from the outside. Maybe another year and a refurbish just because I know it's there. Hood gets treated every year and after the hardtop comes off after the winter chill I use a clothes steamer (gently and when Mrs J can't see me.....
) to remove the creases from winter storage - back to new (well nearly).
RFTs went first for Pirellis - what a difference. Strut brace, think it makes a difference but looks good when you look at the engine
Clear lights all round from a Forum purchase as was CDV replacement - can't now remeber who I got them from but 'Thank You'. Just spent a rash few hundred £'s on a tri colour M steering wheel (yes that one on E Bay so now have a new Air Bag up for grabs..... :roll: )
Illuminated Z4M gear lever and illuminated cills. Doesn't go any faster with these but I love 'em. Hard wired a Garmin sat nav with an illiminated (red) on/off switch under the dash (just above the ash tray) - switch glows gently in the dark and illuminates the ash tray (yeah..... ) and lets you know the Sat Nav is live. Just changed the Sat Nav for the latest Garmin (iPhone lookalike) - great graphics and doubles as a bluetooth phone connection. So all of you with factory fitted, 'YA BOO SUCKs' - the Garmin is better
Always serviced by the same original purchase BMW dealer - now know the service team who respect my wishes and look after the Zed well. Have kept all receipts, tax discs, MOTs etc which makes for a good read. All receipts as well for cleaning stuff etc - frightening when you start to add up the cost - cheaper to drink heavily/smoke/get divorced
Looked recently at a new one BUT throwing another £20k plus and mine in p/ex (even with the current deals being offered - mate just bought a new 2.3 in Newcastle £6k off on a deal and p/ex to) however not so sure a new Zed will give me any more pleasure than from the one I have. And after 7 years we're the best of friends :cheers: . Now who dumps a best friend for a new one.
In all this time of ownership the Forum (old + new) has been a great source of fun/inspiration and knowledge - thanks guys. :ilz4f:
Have tried to give a little back in return based on my experiences. So hopefully a few more birthdays (for the Zed AND ME) and a few more years of enjoyment in the Zed. Happy days indeed.
