handbrake

hi
Had the handbrake pads replaced recently as it wasn't grabbing on a hill. Mechanic said the ratchet jobby has lost some teeth at the lever too. Looks a bugger to get at, any suggestions? Cheers

Looking at the OEM view (link below) it's difficult to see where the ratchet is or if its a seperate piece. Suggest removing the lever cover (part 7) and just have a look.

To prevent any problems in the future (and not suggesting you do this now) but not a good idea to pull the handbrake on without releasing the ratchet. Hope you get it fixed.

Teeth on ratchet missing is one thing and as Alan notes just needs checking and if required a new mechanism fitting. That will not affect the braking effectiveness of the handbrake.

Have you adjusted up the shoes through one of the bolt holes in the wheel? Most likely a combination of setting those correctly then the lever such that it takes effect after just a few clicks will sort it.
