Handbrake red light regularly comes on and goes off?

I have a bmw z4 3.0 from 2005 for around 6 years and got a curious problem.

When i drive around 70 km/h my braking light comes on (red light), now when i continue to drive it automatically turns off again. When i then slow down (come almost to a halt) and drive a bit faster again the braking light turns red again.

It seem to happen more often compared to last week, now it for example happens when i 40/50 km/h, it still goes off though after a minute or so.

I don't smell anything on the rear brakes, nor is there brown dust on my brake disks. Nor my fuel consumption increased (this was the case a few months ago when my handbrake was stuck, this was fixed by replacing the disks and blocks and a lot more).

My handbrake is also working without any problems. I do have my handbrake lowered, just in case :)

Anybody got a idea what might be the problem?

How much slack is there in the handbrake when pulling before the light comes on?
I had to test this one, when i pull the handbrake the light comes on at the first click sound. It doesn't come on before the click is heard. The first click comes at around 10-15%.

Tinus - welcome to the Forum
Cheers, thanks for the warm welcome

Just to update you guys:
it appeared the handbrake light did also represent problems with the normal brakes.
After some brake fluid was added the light stayed off. Duh

If your pads are very low, take GREAT care when the pads are replaced otherwise the fluid could overflow when the pistons are pressed back in
