Just noticed that when ever I apply the handbrake i can hear a sort of metalic rattle from the rear of the car, only just noticed it today, cleaned the car yesterday. Any views?

cheers

Caused by pulling the lever up and down or from the shoes when rolling slightly?

There are a couple of springs clips that hold the shoes square. They could be loose and rattling in the 'drum' inside the disc.

Never heard of a rattle caused by washing a car. I used to have a 206 GTi that squeaked each time I sat in it as it loaded up the suspession, rotated the wells silghtly. Happened after being washed as no doubt light rust on the surfaces

Bet your noise returns as whatever is loose, broken, worn moves position again :poke:

It has returned ha. It happens as you pull the handbrake to its most up position? Any ideas? Is it a major issue as warranty runs out in a week!

 Why am I not surprised... I just didn't think you'd be posting so quick.

Is it when the car is stationary or moving? I'm trying to understand if it's something in the handbrake drum/shoes that is rattling as the car moves, or if the act of tightening the cable is causing something to touch.

Then my first port of call would be to see if applying the handbrake is causing one of the outer cables to tension and thus lift up and touch something that is vibrating, such as the exhaust or a bracket.
