Handbrake Cable feels like its Snapped

Good Morning all,

It feels that my handbrake cable has snapped, it just goes to the top. But reading on here it seems there are various problems people have with there handbrake, not necessarily just the cable. Has anyone had any problems or can they shed any light on what the issue maybe?

My handbrake seems to just go to the top, not hold the car. When I put it down it feels reluctant to go all the way down and springs back up a bit.

Any help would be great.

Regards

George

Chances are very slim that the cable has snapped. It'll most likely either be its become disconnected at the lever end or one of the connections into the rear brake drum (inside the disk)

Start at the lever end by pulling up the lever surround and take a look

my shoes had completely gone and needed replacing. Felt completely different once it was done!

Absolutely. Having done the quick 30 second visual check that the cables are connected and with someone moving the lever that they are operating, then it's wheels and disks off to check the shoes and likely replace and adjust up.

How can you tell if the cable is attached I've opened it up and had a poke around had but frankly I can't see anything other then a yellow Spring.

Mine feels like it's snapped. Well, it doesn't actually function at all. I haven't got around to fixing it yet so I just leave the car in gear for now.

When you take the gaitor off you can see the end of the cable. Mine all seemed intact so my problem requires getting the car on ramps.

I can't seem to see the cable. Would upload a photo of my view but I can't even work out how to upload a photo. Clearly my brain has given up today.

 sounds like you should go to bed and forget about today

Basically, looking straight down onto the handbrake mechanism, at the front, underneath the handle you will see the spring attached to something which I think is yellow. I think the spring can sometimes detach from this and needs clipping back in.

Mine was clipped in fine, although we didn't think it was at first.

Here's the thread I made, which has some helpful replies from other members which may help you.

I know.

Ok I will check it out again in the morning. So If I look straight down I can see the yellow Spring (which I can) how ever I can't see the back of this. Do you know how to reset this side ways? Is it a small movement or a large one. I tried pushing the spring about earlier but I could hardly move it.

Thanks for your gelp

We used a very long flathead screwdriver to move it. It's too stiff to move using your fingers. It definitely moved sideways, but as said, that was not the issue with mine so it didn't fix it.
