Handbrake activation when moving

I Just hope you dont ever let her sit next the emergency exit when you go away on holiday. I cant believe anyone has such an irresponsible attitude to finding out what something is designed to do. In this age of social media, smart phones and tablets etc has the art of conversation deteriorated so much that your girlfriend couldnt simply ask?

Dread to think what could have happened to you both and potentially some poor soul coming the other way if you had been mid corner when she began her journey of discovery with the hand brake switch

I didnt say in which manual. In this case it was some kind of BMW mechanics technical updates manual.

Lol touchy. The point here is that it's irrelevant what reason is involved, it's a handbrake just like the lever style, it stops the car if you pull it, whether it's a switch or manual lever, it stops the car. There is no different a reason to pull it because it's a switch rather than a lever. Granted the primary loss is it's now on/off rather than having any feel. The primary gain is space and all four wheel stopping.

I think fair to say lesson learnt. She's not a fan of flying so you can rest assured she will keep her hands to herself.

Yep,told the wife about the "emergency" brake on the car in case of yours trully collapsing in the fast lane. Thought I'd reinforce it by telling her again a month later, ( in one ear,out the other syndrome with the good lady wife ) only to be shouted down, I know, I know.... :? I get out to open the gate ( on slope) missed pulling the lever, car starts to roll, pull the brake on darling.... Where is it? Gulp methinks. Ditch / slope / embarrassed wife / fuming husband  At least it was the Quattro, drove out,no bother.
Always useful to explain the F&B's of the Emergency Brake.

Have you ever had a car with ABS on the manual lever?
There is a big difference in the possible use of a lever compared to this switch in an emergecy.
One reason I'm "touchy" is that forum users tend to answer questions they don't fully understand. But this time it clear that was not the case.

Does this electronic device mean that it's impossible to do a handbrake turn in an E89, or is there a "real" handbrake as well?
Not impossible, you just need a different technique. I've had some great fun before changing the back tyres. Handbrake into a donut and we're smokin' In fact just been for a hoon this morning before I changed the rears.
