Halogen to Xenon Conversion

to anyone thinking of swapping ..... I have OEM xenons on my zed and drove it in the dark for the first time last night ...... OMG !!! how good are they !! :o

On full beam it was like driving with a set of football stand floodlights attached to the car ... amazing! The difference between the xenons on my zed and the halogens on my daily was incredible

I installed the HID kit today and the lights do not work when the car is running. If the car is off with iginiton on the lights work fine, if the car is started and running the lights work for a second and then start to flicker and eventually stoped working altoghther. Anyone any ideas whats going on here? I have the same kit as andmas above whos kit worked I believe.

Seems they are useless at sending them out - when I called them it sounded like it was a one off - further feedback that I have read seems to indicate they continually fail to include these

seems like it..the funny bit is that the receipt in the box clearly states 'inc error cancellors'. beats all how they forgot to check it before packaging everything else up to see if they are in there. good to know anyway that hopefully this is all thats the problem.

got the cancellors fitted and the lights are great! so much more enjoyable driving at night now as you can actually see the road ahead. a must for all non factory-fitted zenon lighted cars. the actual full beam light seems to be more clearer and go further in the distance too than before but this is just an illusion - shows how crap the halogen lights really are. thankyou everyone for the info from this thread!

Glad you got it sorted! Unbelievable how poor oem halogens are!

Yep. Even with Philips 80+ bulbs and a slight height adjustment they still suck. Don't even get me started on driving the Z4 on a rainy night....

so theres no flickering, bulb out or random fluttering with error cancellors? I had a kit in the past and I ditched them due to them fluttering while on. I didn't use an error cancellors however...

Nope, nothing. Well the set I just fitted would not work without the cancellors. Drove a couple of hours the other night and no problems at all. Theyre excellent!

Hello. I am a new poster, although not new to the forum. Have been perusing ever since I bought my 2007 Z4.

I am having a lot of trouble with the factory fitted halogens. Called BMW today and they recommended a more powerful halogen bulb which is apparently 110% brighter. However, having read the posts, it appears that this isn't enough? The cost of these more powerful bulbs is £55 for a pair.

As the cost of the HID kit is pretty much the same, I would rather the HID kit. However, I am not very good with tinkering with the car myself. Does anyone know where I can go to get the kit fitted?

Hi, welcome to the forum, where are you based? As far as fitting there not all that difficult if you have very basic spanner skills.

To do the full modification as per my original post, you would also need the non ribbed lenses, but as these no longer seem to be available, then you will have to live with a little more glare and a less well defined cut off. Should still be OK for MOT though.

I have just bought a pair of halogen headlamps from a 2006 model, these do have the ribbed lines on the front lens.je9ynydy.jpg

I was looking at a HID kit as I didn't realise this was an issue and wanted a better light. I've been looking at a 5000k pure white set from "we sell HIDs" on eBay and they don't mention this as an issue

Will I be better off just buying a good set of H7 bulbs like the Osram night breakers?

The ribbing on the plastic lens is fine, it's the glass projector dome lens that can have ribs. If you look at the dipped headlight with it switched on, you might just be able to see them. It's a shame that I've lost my original photos for this thread as they showed it quite well.

Ok thanks for the update. I might not be able to see until the lights are fitted; I was hoping to fit any bulbs while the lights are off the car as they are so much more accessible. I will take a closer look before deciding. Thanks again!

If the lights are off the car, you should be able to hold the units up to the light and look through the glass lenses. They can also be removed with a long socket on the 4 nuts
