Halfords oil bargain?

Going to do a change this week, spotted this halfords bargain.. not what i normally use (castrol edge) but it looks a good price and spec wise seems suitable unless I'm missing something? If any eagle eyed experts can see why not please shout out :D

https://www.halfords.com/motoring/engine-oils-fluids/engine-oil/castrol-magnatec-5w30-c3-oil-4-litre

I used to use magnatec in mine, but I remember reading that it wasn't the correct spec for my engine (3.0i). I switched to Petronas and it uses less oil now, and is quite cheap in eurocarparts with codes

Cant see anything on the spec that suggests it wont be suitable, c3 bmw LL-04 seems to be the general requirement which this has, gonna give it a whirl. it will only do 4000 miles so cant see it doing any harm tbh and at 34 quid for 8 litres just about the best price anywhere

i agree, clean oil is always better than expensive dirty oil , although.. tbo, it needent be ll spec if you do what many of us do and change it at 5k

Ha.. it'll never see 5k, thats like 3 year mileage :D

exactly !
so dont be fooled by the spec for low mileage use, i read many times a clean engine with fresh oil is waaay better that long mileage changes - impo any 5/30 for 6 months will be just fine - and repeat.. your vanos will love you for it too

Ive used Halfords oil for years in all my cars without any problems, It was always a good buy with the trade card but last year or so not so much now.

Thanks for the tip off. I always use Magatec C3 stop start in my Z4, the wife's e91 and my R56 mini, so just stocked up.

The stop/start drove me nutz on my zed & mrs smartbears r55 clubman, luckily Carly is able to code both cars to remember their last state so they don’t need disabling every time they start up! :x

Just put your Reg in on their website and they will show you the recommended products - this is what comes up for me

My Z4 and my mini don't have stop start functionality, you don't need stop start functionality to use the oil.

I am not sure how accurate Halfords oil finder is but I have found ECP to recommend oils that are not suitable for cars in the past so I prefer the oil manufacturers site. For castrol it is here:

https://applications.castrol.com/oilselector/en_gb/c/search

Interestingly the picture you show recommends a 10W60 oil which is not recommended on the castrol site.

Magnatec C3 stop start is a recommended oil for my M54 E85.

Just been in to Halfords to have some plates made up and they still had stock so I bought some. Absolute bargain. I get 10% off through my work so came to £30.60 for 8 litres  :driving:

just did an oil change with this today. The oil that came out looked like I hate my poor zed. Might pick up some more during the week and do a full flush and change in a few months.
