Halfords Low Profile Jack - half price !

Been needing a new jack after my Lidl special wheels buckled and I lost the will to live sticking the car on bricks to jack it up. It's no £100 super sport jack, but I just picked this up for £25 instead of £50 - might be a nationwide thing so thought I'd share :thumbsup:

Just bought a branded version of this.
Its a chinese pattern licensed out to different retailers.
It's ok, but i dont think it will stand up to daily use.
And its fekin heavy! Not always a sign of strength/reliability.
 
I'll probably use it 3 or 4 times a year, so it will do me. The really cheap Lidl one I have lasted me 5 years...

You have to remember Bing, with that car of Chris's, the jack does get used daily! :D

Fair point - I'm obviously just not committed enough nowadays :oops:
 
Looks identical to the SGS one I had. Ideal for most jobs but I've ended up getting an Ali jack from machine mart with a quicker and higher lift.
Good jack for occasional use and the price.

Or, your car is much more reliable than Chris's :wink:
 
All I'm doing is changing wheels and cleaning arches for the most part, maybe changing disks and pads. Interim oil changes done from the top with a vacuum pump in the dipstick, CDV removed already... anything that requires more work ends up with my Indy I'm afraid, so it'll suit the jobs I do :thumbsup:

I'm sure it will do Bing. For £25 that's all I'd need. My old Halfords one must be 20 year old still ok, always back up with axle stands.
Oil changes etc I use my ramps.
 
I have that one too (the SGS branded version). Great for the money.

If you buy a rubber hockey puck you can fix it on a drill and lathe out a groove that will let it sit neatly on the jacking plate. Really handy for jacking at a pinch weld when you want to stick an axle stand under the proper jacking point.
 
That's a good find and price Al, looks like the one I use for work and I'm using it all the time :thumbsup:
I need to go to Halfords so I might pick one up for a spare .
 
I've had my trolley jack for 30 years! But at that price I'll be taking a look in at our local Halfords.

One off 5000 posts Paul :thumbsup: .............. 30 year old Jack I would be too attached to get rid of it. Handy to have two jacks though
 
I just bought one of these a couple of weeks ago (Toolpro brand, same thing by the look of it). Very happy with it as until it came out a few weeks ago all we could buy for low profile was $300-400 higher quality ones, which I just couldn't justify.
Back it up with axle stands when using of course. I also put a small block of wood between it and the car jack points to try to protect them.
