Half open roof for access - E89

Hi,

I want access to remove the rear light unit.
Can someone point me to an article on how to stop the roof opening halfway.
I'm reluctant to just take my finger off the button and see what happens.
Is it OK to do that? Will it stay there or automatically shut again after a while?

I'm sure I've read this somewhere but having used various search phrases I can't track it down.

Yes it is.

It'll stay there until you decide to close it.

Yep, unless you’ve got a one touch roof module fitted, removing your finger will stop the roof. The roof can still slowly descend under its own weight but I’ve heard of people arresting this movement with a suitably sized/placed piece of wood with no ill effects

We did this on my 2010 model when changing out the shocks. No ill effects and no noticeable movement while we worked.

Hi.

I did this little job just a few weeks ago and I was also reluctant to stop the process part way so I left the engine running just in case the magic box forgot where it was up to. Have you seen the video on YouTube

While you're in there, make sure nobody pushes anything.

...... and put the key on a shelf, don't have it in your pocket. If the roof decides to close whilst you're in there it'll eat you.
