Hairdresser for thick long hair within 45 mins of Maidenhead

Okay so this is going to be a bit of a weird request to some of you fellow Forumers (the guys). But as there has been really useful replies to another of my posts, please could I request some help.

I am in need of a hairdresser who can cut thick long hair effectively, removing bulk and weight from within, but without putting in stupid layers that stick out all over the place (those with similar hair-type will sympathise). Location: within 45mins of Maidenhead (can you see I am desperate). There's no point going to a big name salon that charges through the nose, because a) I don't have the budget and b) most of the ones I used before don't have the technique necessarily. I am not against trying a cheaper hairdresser next but again you don't know what they are like without trying them. So a hairdresser who is good, and if at cheaper price spectrum EVEN better!!

Last cut was in August and my mane needs a cut again. Please, any help from women, or guys who can pass tips from their wives / girlfriends, thanks very much!! :cry:
 
I cut my own last time using Lee Staffords DIY cut. It turned out really well. I'll try and find the link.

I was holding my breath watching that!! Seriously did you do it on your own? I would be scared. How much did you cut off? I have looked cutting yourself on YouTube before but have not been brave enough to attempt myself. (Instead I spend time trying to explain to a silly hairdresser, and then I get anxious after a crappy haircut!). If you have a before and after photo you could send that would be great.

:) Pah Paul! Yeh well, I have to be wined and dined so any savings will go toward that :P . And I like expensive theatre outings. I do washing up though, I earn my keep :D
 
My wife's hair quite easily gets v thick and unruly (the Egyptian half of her genes) but she's been having her hair cut by Claire at Essensuals Reading for years now and is very happy every time. Claire also often does models' hair for major fashion shows (including London Fashion Week each year).

Only issue might be the expense as she's a senior stylist...

Thanks for the tip raviliousness, I'll have to give them a ring :) . Due to my Oriental genes, my hair is really thick and it's not easy finding a decent hairdresser.

My own (half)oriental hair has always been troublesome for me too, but being a bloke it's not so bad. I do my own now with clippers, scissors and two mirrors! It was always a hassle getting it done every two weeks and hard to find hairdressers who were consistent for some reason - not to mention it costing a fortune!
 
when i had horses we used to pull the hair rather than cut it, this keeps the length but makes it thinner. i could attempt that on you

Hi raviliousness. (Your username is a spelling test). Well I called Essensuals about Claire. Eek she's expensive :o . In the 50s and I have a restricted budget at the moment. I guess it wouldn't be too bad IF she was really good and didn't hack my hair to the extent that it sticks out all over the place, giving me the effect I don't want. Reading town centre is a little bit further for me (well trafficky sometimes as meander through the town to get to Oracle car parks from Junction 10) but worth it if she's great with the scissors. Boys are high maintenance, getting their hair cut every two weeks!! :poke:

I heard about a hairdresser in Windsor and had a quick chat with him. Charges £49 which is slightly more reasonable. He seems to know what he's talking about when I asked him what he could do cut-wise. Windsor is a bit closer to me, but would have to pay for parking in both Reading and Windsor. What was a bit suspect was the hairdresser was fully dressed up for Halloween, with make up, hair and red contact lenses!!
