Had My Window Broken With A Rock

Found out today that whoever broke my drivers window did it with a rock. After a wet weekend last time, finally had it replaced. While hoovering it out the guy found said rock, still had bits of metal on it. Must have hit the centre console as there's a big mark on that on the ashtray cover and the metal before the roof buttons, plus it must have bounced up as it marked the plastic below the radio. The centre console is also scratched all over from flying glass, didn't realise how easily it could be damaged. Not sure how cheaply these bits can be replaced.

Had a look at some prices today. The ashtray is about £25 and the plastic trim below the radio about £15. That's not too bad but the centre console trim is £320! Also forgot that the door sill trim was dented which is £65. Not sure whether it's worth seeing if I can get the centre trim from a breakers, but I've got brushed aluminium not the usual carbon weave one. Could claim on insurance but not sure of it's worth it.

Cheers. Think I'll do a saved search on there and see if the centre console comes up. Probably going to be a lot easier to change it all at once, I don't mind paying the negligable cost got the other parts new. Just don't want to be looking at a constant reminder of it all the time. Last time I park there. Going to use the shed for rail duties from now on.

Probably more likely an accident, why would someone throw a rock at an e89 (or any car for that matter) unless it was personal?

Yeah the aluminium trim isn't made of a real cast & brushed plate but rather shaped from thin composite which is covered in a plastic laminate to prevent scratches from metal objects, the whole thing is easily scratched — interior quality was compromised for design in the z4.

2 other options are to place a automatic lookout on eBay (I can't remember the actual term) that alerts you when a matching listing shows up, or to have the interior customised by someone that can wrap the trim to something different (perhaps carbon fibre or brushed steel by 3M). Some of the 3M brushed effect or carbon fibre effect vinyls are actually similar quality as BMW originals.

thats terrible... the other option aside from ebay is sign up with some breaker yards... as none of those parts are airbag related should be pretty lucky sourcing them.

Had a rock thrown over a fence at an MX-5 about 12 years ago - car parked in the office car park whilst I was away on business - I was fortunate glancing blow of the door on to the ground - work colleague found the rock when he went to get in the passenger door lying on the ground.

So it happens

It's more likely to be some local green eyed, ferrule hooded scummy neds :headbang:

Unfortunately its due to the state of the world we currently live in, happens with more frequency as they appear to be everywhere nowadays :(
