Had my seat cover done at my local BMW garage...

So it went in for some work to be done, and they ripped the leather seat. No problem they say, we'll replace the seat cover. Alarm bells start ringing, as I don't want them to rip my 18k car apart, but I reluctantly say OK.

Then, it comes back like this! Very unhappy with it to be honest, but BMW have refused to do anything except 'review the case in a year's time when it has normalised'.

Here's some photos.

This one is an overview of the issue - See how saggy they are!!!

I've edited this one to show it up a bit more

Here's my DRIVER'S side, with 18,000 miles on it!!! Absolutely fine!!

And here's the comparison of my drivers seat to the passenger seat!

Should I take this up with BMW Head Office?

What can I do? Is it worth ringing BMW Head Office about it?

Well I've taken the car away now, as I had to. It'll be going back in a month though, if the cable in the back of the seat hasn't been absorbed by the foam... Apparently this is also 'normal'... You can SEE the cable in the seat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What are those black metal looking, hoop things in the two corners of the seat, where the back meets the base?
You don't normally see those, do you? :?

Looks like whoever fitted the covers, didn't have a clue what they were doing.

Got them on mine, thought it was something to do with the child seat fixing because they only on the passenger side, my seats are black so they don't show up as much

This is an easy one to answer. Ignore the dealer - They damaged your seat so are duty bound to repair it to your satisfaction (unless say they were working on the seats doing something non standard at your request and warned it was something likely to happen, etc.)

I would ignore their fob off to go away for a year and simply call BMW GB, register your concern and complaint and let them take it forward. I'm sure they will want a customer to be happy and will have it redone, even at another dealer

Thanks everyone - glad the black bits are normal.

Anyone got a best place I should contact to get it resolved? MD's email address perhaps?

First thing to do is simply use the BMW Group contact on the BMW.co.uk website. However, it is likely they will pass you back to the dealer. Did you speak to the dealer principle?

Start talking trading standards / escalation to BMW group - it should start things moving...

I think in the "mega factories" show they did on the Z4, they also showed the seat factory (located nearby). I can't remember if they fitted the covers then treated them in some way to tighten the leather.IIRC, the leather cover was pretty snug as they were placing it.

Thats very bad did they replace the foam underneath as i have heard that fitting new covers over old foam can cause the baggy look you have.

I have used this method both phone and email in they do not just refer you to the dealer, my issues have always been resolved by contacting BMW UK, most recently to get a courtesy car whilst my dealer had mine but couldnt fix because BMW Germany could not advise a fix.

Honestly, I'd settle for nothing LESS than a brand new seat. They can recoup the costs from selling the trashed up one.

the covers will be the correct size and the original foam should still be ok.
therefore it has to be a fitting issue.
i haven't looked closely at these seats but the clips/springs/wires underneath need to be pretty tightto get a good look.
i wonder if a interior guy has done them or just a mechanic.
it can be quite tricky to get things to sit right.
