i have been offered £12400 for my 08 roadster i was hoping for something closer to £13 k should i wait till spring or take it now ? i am mindful that cars only tend to go down in price the older they are any helpful pointers would be welcomed :thumbsup:

Never look at the market so not sure if thats a good price but if you are after a quick sale and your new toy is cheaper to buy now then i would go for it but if however you are not ready to buy now would wait till spring when roadster prices rise

I would take the money if you`re being offered it now; as you say, cars rarely appreciate in value !
 
I think the offer was quite fair, as your car is 2.0 and not a 2.5/3.0. You should accept the offer now.
 
£600 from £13k would easily be within the normal negotiation margin I'd have built in. Go for it, get the cash and then negotiate hard on your new motor.
 
got to agree a 600 drop from what you are expecting isnt a million miles off. take the money and haggle hard on your next purchase to make it back
 
yeah i was kinda thinking this my self although the £13k i wanted was already low but probably best to start with a clean slate :thumbsup:

had to cancel as it was on provision that the deel on the table involved letting bmw have my car for 11.5k which at the time i thought seemed stingy so i told em i would try selling privatly first and see what happens :)
 
i think what niggled me the most was the fact on their forecourt was a identical z4 same trim but a year older and 15k more miles, that they had priced up at £15000 ! when i said to the sales man should it be i wanted the older car out side i would have to part ex my car and still give him £3500 , to which he replied well yes but you will get a years warranty thats worth a lot!! :roll:
 
Slightly off topic

But i wonder if the 2.0i models end up with stronger residuals in the coming months/years. With petrol at £1.20 now and VAT going up next month, people are more MPG conscious than ever.

think it depends what its bought for - for a daily drive the mpg is important, for a weekend toy it doesn't really matter

I'm sure there will always be a sector of the market that seeks the car without the costs, but typically it's the larger engined and higher end spec. that attract the most interest over the longer term. I don't think the cost of fuel really matters in this second hand market sector, nor really overall costs of ownership that much either.

People who are really interested in fuel economy, will I'm sure, buy a different car altogether.
 
The Which magazine had a rubbish article in there this month about the Z4. Recommendation was to go for the 2.0, and never to go for a model with upgraded wheels (they stated anything bigger then 16" wheels was to be avoided). Also, the Sport models were a no-no according to the article.

Complete inaccurate article stating that there are a large number of SMG cars about with a semi automatic box. Wished they got their facts right ...
