Had a little accident this morning

Not a great way to start the day but it happens. Lucky he's admitted full liability as he's basically pulled out of a side road whilst I was turning into it. I've informed my insurance company and gone to BMW for an estimate to forward to them but they are trying to get me to go through a company called Accident exchange. Has anyone used them?
My insurance has given me two options which are get it booked in for repair using their approved repairer and pay my excess and claim it back or wait for them to confirm liability and get it repaired without paying my excess.
The damage doesn't look to bad but I assume it will still be costly, rear wheels also taken a knock which could of put the alignment out so that will need checking also.
Hopefully it will be repaired in time for the Kent meet on the 3rd :driving:

To top it off I come home to find my cat been in a fight and can't walk so a had to take him to the vets :(

Accident Exchange will give you a hire car at a cost if about £300 a day.

If the 3rd party chooses to challenge the claim, then any excessive hire car charges may not be deemed as 'reasonable' costs if yours is still drivable, and/or you could afford to mitigate them by hiring a car yourself for £20 a day.

My hire car cost through Accident Exchange was double the damage claim - and when it finally progressed to court, I had to spend hour fixing their bolloxed version of my 'testimony'.

Try to have a word with the 3rd party's insurer, as you may find they'll offer you a hire car instead.

My insurance will give me a hire car only if I use their approved repairer I believe. They told be they would not insure me if I went out side their approved repair network :(

That may well be correct, depending on what your policy says. Mainly because the £30-£50 an hour they pay their preferred repairers gives then enough profit to pay for a cheap hire car for you.

The BMW rates will be double that. But BMW will get a kickback for any referral or Accident Exchange.

If you can afford it - and genuinely need one - then hire a car from Enterprise/Avis/Hertz.

However, speak to your insurer or the 3rd party insurer to make sure these out of pocket costs are recorded and agreed.

I used BMW accident exchange a few months back when someone went up the back of my car while my wife was driving. The woman that hit her admitted full responsibility to my insurance company straight away and the choice was mine who handled my claim. I went with BMW's company as they were offering a like for like curtesy car and her insurance company was offering me a car from Enterprise which would have been a 'mid range' car, also they could start the repairs straight away rather than waiting for an assessor to come out.
In the end I got a 335i loaner (at a cost of £200+ a day!!!) and my car was fixed within 4 days. I'm pretty sure you have to sign an insurance from that says if they can't recover the full costs including the loan car costs within a year they claim the cash from an insurance company (no come back on you though).

Hope you get it fixed as soon as possible, but more importantly how's the cat? I really hope he/she'll be ok

My cat seems to be a bit better now he's had some pain killers but I might have to take him back in in the morning if he can't put his weight on it. I always get told off coz he ways 7kgs but I can't feed him any less, think someone's else feeds him

Fingers crossed he'll be ok they are very resilient, mine got run over two years ago and broke both sides of his pelvis. He was screwed together and then caught a super bug from the vets. He had to have another emergency operation to cut away the infected tissue and the vet didnt think he'd make it!
However after a very long 2 months of recuperation in a cage in our living room he's now completely back to normal (apart from he sits wonky!!).
As he may suffer from arthritis later in life he have to keep an eye on his weight, last week he was 4.7kg and they said he mustn't get any heavier.

Used accident exchange several times for my company and never had any problem. As long as you carry no blame you have no problem, they dealt with all our accidents smoothly, we got a car as least as good as our own as a courtesy car and the only issue we had was a woman who argued what was a cut and dried case, she lost !!

That's good to know he did seem to think the whole process will be much quicker through them and could possibly be it book in this week.

Little update

Cars been waiting at BMW for just over a week now but I got a call yesterday saying they have authorised the repairs so hopefully have her back by the end of next week. Estimate has come in at over 4k and will require a new rear wheel so i'll have an odd coloured wheel for a while. :(

Need to decide weather to have my 108s refurbished as they were starting to look tatty or look for something different like a nice set of 224s.

Hey,

If you want I have a pair of E85 Side skirts... in that exact colour 'sterling grey?' going spare if you want to snap them up for next to nothing... they have been sat in my garage for months now.

Just PM me if you are interested. They're in good nick with only some minor scratches which you cant see when fitted.
