Just wondering for those of you with an auto Z4..do you ever use the paddle shifters on the wheel? Is the system good or kind of useless?

I tend to leave it in full auto to be honest i do try the paddles now and then but i tend to be all fingers and thumbs but i suppose practise makes perfect

I have them, and do use them...but rarely. Mostly don't require the use of them, as the automatic works very well all by itself.

ditto, i can't recall when i last used them

I have used them, particularly on shallow to medium bends making rapid progress. But in general, no. In fact I tend to use the stick in sport or sport+ mode.......it just feels so natural for some reason

Even in full auto just kick it down and boy does it move nevermind sport mode, this is my first auto and i don't regret it.

I must be in the minority......I use mine all the time. Very rarely use the Auto. It's paddles and only use the stick when on a roundabout.

I use them when on a hoon, sometimes the auto box wants to select the right gear on the way out of a corner. I prefer it on the way in..

AS this is my wife's car, I don't get to drive it much except on weekends.
When I do, I usually put it in manual and use the paddles. It's exhilirating I guess.

mine didn't work when i 1st got the car, since having it fixed i wouldn't do without :) use manual/paddles 90% of the time, very resposive, instant change and holds the gear until i ask it to change, love it :D only tend to use full auto when stuck in traffic or feeling lazy

Since my first Z4 was a 2003 steptronic and I didn't have paddles, I got used to using the stick when I wanted to have some fun  . Now that my 2007 has the paddles, I still tend to use the stick. Feels more natural to me as well. I did try to get used to the paddles, but it just seems more fun with the stick. Now that I have had my ECU tuned :D , I like to hit the sports button and just leave it in drive. Works WONDERFUL :D :D

Good to play with, but even though I made the conversion myself I still spend most time letting he box sort itself out. In sport it can do a pretty good job of keeping it all together, but nice from time to time to feel you're in control.

I use them in conjunction with the stick about half the time, usually when I'm driving a bit harder then normal

Do you guys tend to be always in sports mode? Everyone seems to say it makes a huge difference so I'm wondering why anyone would stay in normal mode..or is it better when just driving around town or something?

I spend 95% of my time in 'normal'
Sport simply makes the car run around 1 gear lower burning fuel and the throttle over sensitive and twitchy for normal use.
The moment I need to 'go' or am in spirited mood then press the button and enjoy the difference - quicker and later gearshifts, less assisted steering, etc.
