Gutted, a little curb rash!!!

Very unhappy, managed to scrub a curb on my nearside front BBS LM rep. The damage isn't huge, it's left the very edge of the rim rough, so I guess would need filling rather than grinding a few mm from the entire rim.

Has anyone got any info on repairing polished rims like this? Is it possible to 'add' some metal to fill the rough area, or will I need both fronts grinding and repolishing to balance them?

Pics will be added, posting this on my iPhone. Been to two alloy garages but both closed :(

Gutted, they were immaculate!

Damn, that's bad news. I've got no advice for you unfortunately, but good luck with getting them sorted. Are you the person who just bought these recently? :(

So this is the damage:

I've had them on the car since march, this is the first scuff

What size tyre have you got on what size rim? As it doesn't look like the tyre is giving the rim any protection whatsoever (a bit like the 265 rears on CSL rims).

235 front and rear.

So nobody had any such rim repaired?

Ugghhh I hate it when that happens, you get that grinding sound  then go out and have a look then more

I did it on two of my previous cars, not with the bm though I'd learnt my lesson by then so now I park 2 feet away from any kerbs  like a yummy mummy does when picking up the kids :P

I sat there for a good 5 mins before getting out to look

Its a horrible feeling, cos its like oh it dosent matter but it so does  the benefits of having a big 4x4 become more apparent, actually most school runs take place in.... mmm yeah.

My brother lunched one of my lovely 17" alloys on a brand new company car a few years ago on a kerb. The graunching noise is one you never ever want to hear again. Same thing, called him every name under the sun and then got out to look at the damage. It wasn't pretty. Hard luck fella, it doesn't look that bad, a good repaired should be able to fix those no problem.

It shouldn't be a problem to repair, but you'll have to find someone capable in your area. I'm a bit too far east to recommend anyone over your way.

If the rear wheels are wider than the fronts then getting 255/265s on the rear will give them a bit more protection, but that doesn't really help with the fronts. Do you know how wide they are?

I think its more to do with the profile of the tyre rather than the width, too close to a kerb no matter what width you have ittl still end up ruining your alloy.

Partly, but if you have a tyre that extends an inch over the rim, then you've got a bit more protection - just like all those tyres with 'rim protectors'.

An inch over the rim, on a 4x4 maybe, but not on a z4 :poke:

I was (slightly) exaggerating, but you got the picture

Been there a few months ago, but haven't had mine repaired yet but have been quoted £75.

Mine happened in a width restrictor where the kerbs were not in a straight line so i had to roughly guess to get the car though without damage, obviously i failed. The Z4 is particularly hard to judge as you sit low with a high long bonnet and small windows meaning you can't really see where you are next to the kerb. I will make sure not to go through that particular width restrictor again. If in a similar situation i will get out the car first to see where I am, I'd rather look like a bad driver than kerb my wheel again.
