I've just been quoted £247.00 inc. VAT for supply and fitting of a driver side window mechanism.
Does this sound like a good price?
 
Sounds about right from BMW, i would look at sourcing a used item though.

I was quoted £270 just for the window mechanism on a 2001 Clio once. Went breakers yard and got one for £20 and fitted it myself.
 
I ordered the part @ £106 and it's about a 2 hour job, so, no, it's not too bad. Why don't you do it yourself though?

will there be a problem removing the door panel as it has an airbag?

That price wasn't actually from a BMW dealer! It was from an indepent BMW garage!
I'm going to ring Trainers of Swansea in a bit and see what their price will be?
 
The airbag unit is attached to the door itself not the door card. As long as you disconnect the battery and unplug the airbag it will be fine. Removing the door card is very easy and only takes a couple of minutes.

sorry to be a pain but, is the plug on the back of the door card?
will I need any special tools to do the job?

I've just come off the phone from BMW, to supply and fit, including the door insulation, the total cost was £313.74 NICE!! :x
 
You don't have to go to the BMW Stealer to get it fitted. Try a local independant garage, should be able to find somewhere that charges around £40 or less per hour labour. Saves you some money and the outcome will be the same :thumbsup:
 
Without looking, to remove the doorcard you pop of the wing mirror cover, slide of the large door handle cover and remove the small cap behind the small handle. There are then 3 screws to remove. The card is then held on by clips around the sides and bottom and stronger clips along the top that can take abit of force to pop out. Once off you unplug the door switches, speakers if you have them and unclip the door handle cable. :)
 
Keep an eye on ebay, I picked 1 up about 10 days ago for £45 from a broken 2007 model, local mechanic £25 to fit. My stealer was £127 for part plus labour at £100 per hour!!

this sounds like a fab idea but my window is jammed open, only a couple inchs, but enough for some scumbags to get their hand in!! if I can find one on ebay it'll take a while to get here :(

I've taken your advice Martyn3000. I bought the regulator from BMW £125 inc. VAT (with a two year warranty :D ) and I am going to pay a mechanic friend of mine to fit it. I did consider fitting it my self, but I don't have much patience and far to much marking to do for Monday :(
Thanks again everyone i will let you all know of the total and final price on Monday once the job has been completed.
 
gooooooood news!!

My car is still under warranty by 10 days. good times. But the garage from which I bought the car want to fit a non-BMW window mechanism. bad times.
Have any of you had any experience with non BMW window mechanisms? are they any good?
