guilty pleasures....

I've always wanted one... I'm just not sure I can justify owning two such similar cars, and I'm planning to keep my Z4 indefinitely. That said, I suppose the ///M coupe is almost a practical estate car :)

They're pretty hairy and can be incredibly unforgiving... I witnessed one bounce off the front of a truck before flipping over on the A3 one slippery winter's morning back in 2005. I still cry when I think about it (especially since I was driving a silver TT at that time)

I don't know about non US models but in the US with the 2001 model of the M Coupe got a number of upgrades which included DSC.

The M Coupe gets a number of upgrades for the 2001 model year, with the highlight being a boost of 75 horsepower for the 2001 model year. Dynamic Brake Control, Satin Chrome finished wheels, and interior updates are new as well.

- S52 and the S50 engine are both replaced by a single "world" S54
- 325 hp engine, including a new oil cooler
- Differential ratio changed to 3.15 from 3.23
- DSC replaced ASC
-New tire pressure monitor
- Satin Chrome finished wheels
- Curved M badging on the rear, sides, and on the engine
- Interior changes: gray face gauges, chrome-trimmed rear view mirror, rear defroster relocated, exterior temperature replaces voltmeter, updated clock

WLH, all but the last of the Z3 ///Ms, those with the S54-engine, had no traction control. There were very few UK S54 coupes (160 or so), and these now fetch more than most Z4M coupes. What you say is true for the UK models too, except the S50 model in the UK was 321 bhp and the S54 325 bhp
 
BMWZ4MC, the same is true here about the value of the 2001 & 2002 coupes. I believe there were just over 600 of them sold in the US and I saw one for sale recently and the asking price was $25,000 for a 2002 black coupe. I did not realize how few were sold in the UK... :o

I was going to respond to wantanm's comment, but you beat me to it - I had a wander around the net looking or these out of curiosity, and I couldn't believe how expensive they are. If you fancy one of these I'd buy it now... I can't make up my mind whether I love it or hate it though :?
 
Bing, if you haven't, you need to see one in the metal. They really don't look like mini-estate cars, or 1 series prototypes! They are tiny in height but comparatively extremely wide. In fact, they look like they've been chewing steroids and want to kill someone :D

I've been watching their prices for a while and they're pretty stable at the moment. I'm hoping for one at a price I can't refuse, even if it means a bit of work. Trouble is, they have a few serious issues. The older engine had vanos problems, and they all try to rip their own rear ends apart as they cannot handle the torque. Ideal would be a low mileage one that has been preemptively reinforced and has the S54 engine - except that's about £20K :o

I've seen only a couple on the road, ever, and never close up - but your description is perfect :thumbsup: It's not pretty, but it's 'handsome' and purposeful, and totally mental. I guess the roadster driver in me just hates admitting he likes a coupe :D

That was my last car, every drive was an event. I had the phase 1 & in the wet it was so skittish you simply couldn't push, I had a 182 before that and the actual performance of them was so similar the v6 seemed a silly compromise. Back on topic I would love to be daft enough to buy a 1960's mustang.
