Guidance for a newbie buyer

Hi all,

Just found the forum and registered :)

I’m looking to pick up a Z4 mk2 as a bit of a weekend/recreational car. I have a work supplied van but my new place has a garage so I’ve been warming more and more to a car M, as I love driving.

I’ve had a quick look around on here but I couldn’t find any ‘buying guides’ or ‘stickies’ for some guidance of what to look for and check on a Z4. Would anyone be able to give me some help?
This is the first time I’ve really bought a car, let alone a pre-owned one, so I’m a bit tentative about just running out and buying something before I understand what to realistically look for and check.
I’ve found a local one to me that ticks almost all the boxes and is a firm contender so time may be of the essence on that one.

Model wise I don’t have any set one I’m after, ideally probably an msport kit, 19’s and the mythical unicorn idrive haha. But yeah, pretty much an open book on them and more into finding a nice example.

Any help would be greatly appreciated (or if I’ve totally missed a post with what I’m looking for, happy to be redirected)

Thanks,
Chris

Welcome to the forum Chris.

I'm not completely sure which generation of Z4 you are thinking of when you say MK2. The original model was the E85 in 2003, then there was a facelift in 2006 when the E86 (Coupe) was added to the range. In 2009 both of these were replaced by the E89 with the folding metal roof.

Anyway, here is a link to a check list someone put together for the E85/86 models which may help:- https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=21281

The different models have different foibles so if you can be specific about the car(s) you are considering I'm sure someone will be able to give you some tips concerning what to look for/check.
