GT3 and Help with Z4MC APR BBK quotes

Morning guys.

I know that we don't tend to discuss pricing and I'm not sure whether its against the forum rule Moderators?

I'm getting quote in France for replacement disks (front only) Pagid pads, stainless steel tubes and liquid front and back.

Now the question is over UK quotes for AP Racing BBK (6 pistons front, 4 pistons back AP disks all round). Some quotes do not include the rear AP disks which add £420 odd quid. Can I ask what the best quote is from the UK?

On an other matter as the Z is in for repairs and preparation, the owner of the company lent me his GT3 :D for the weekend. Pics for your enjoyment. Thios is my first ever go in a 911 so overall impressions are:
1. What a noise
2. Car is telepatic and so communicative
3. Aerodynamics kick in from 180kph (nose tucks down, rear wing makes a cool whooshy noise
4. Brakes are fab, the whole car tucks down. (not on its nose like the Z)
5. Car parks and any form of pavement, divots etc are a nono with that front splitter
6. CF buckets are more confortable that the Z electrical heavy items
7. Clutch is heavy like nothing else I've tried but not so much of a hastle (did plenty opf town driving
8. Gear shift is short and very precise but enjoyable
9. just all very very direct, no slack. Can be really violent. Always on the button but not nervous.
10. Fab chassis

I think the Z stands up pretty well engine wise, but not on the chassis front. My conclution is that my MC needs better brakes, better suspension and to shed a few pounds. Oh... and a much louder exhaust and some kind of roll cage :P

Looks lovely, but who'd have thought a £100k car built for the track would perform better than a £40k road car :|

And I've never seen a Z4 leaking coolant at the 'Ring :poke:

I'm just glad that there is still a manufacturer out there that makes such focused cars that are driveable on the road and that come with a gear stick and no gizmos.

Felt really special and far better dialled in that my Z, but I'm no expert and it was my first experience with an engine at back  I'm ashamed to say it but it was far better than I though!

I was 'lucky' enough to drive a friends GT2 a few years ago. Full titanium pipes, deafening and pushing out over 550bhp with no traction devices to speak of and it scared the crap out of me to be honest. It was the most raw car I have ever driven and felt like it would spit you into the next ditch if you so much as sniffed. Gave it back after a few miles and climbed back into my R26 Megane and some new trousers :driving:

yup.. the gt3 is a serious piece of kit. it is the most focus car i have ever driven.....

the OP is right.. the splitter is a serious issue... ie don't consider a car without a lift kit if you need to negotiate car parks and/or road humps.

Bah, its just a peice of plastic. Made me rethink a CF splitter thats for sure. It quite clever actually as it runs a coupe of cm lower than any other part of the car- so if your nose is doing the tale tale "crrrr....crrrrr" you know you've got to watch it for the rest of car.

to nbe honest after 2.5 days hooning it about from town, car park (just the one I could scrape by), B roads, fast roads etc, well... I rekon I could live it everyday...just. :P

its faily civilised with aircon, radio, blue tooth, electric windows and a boot (enoough to fit 3 bags of staw and guinea pig food) - just had to do that very normal thing and stop at plant and pet shop  thing is with the oil coolers in front everything in the boot becomes quite hit (usefull for pies obviously).

Please kick me...

I know what you mean. Its the first 911 I've ever driven and I was papping myself the first hr. Thing is, you get used to it failry rapidly (except the violence of it) as it communicates so clearly throough the steering and thise tight bucket seats. For eg: the owner told me to watch out under accelaration as one rear tyre was faily worn more that the other (he does loads if circuit). For sure it wiggles it ass about but on the second day, I could just push hard from 60 kph in 2nd to 3 rd to 4th at full load (only from third) and would notice because I compensated in the steering.

Sorry I'm bagging on about a bit. It really was quite a special experience   . Can't say I've bonded with the Z in terms of it dynamics so well.

How appropriate - a German car in front of the U-boat pens in Lorient I presume? :poke: Stonking cars, these GT3s and shame on BMW that they never made the Z4MC into a GT3 competitor...

One can only wonder.....

Imagine a lightened Z4MC with the CSL's engine, carbon roof, bucket seats, no toys at all, different bodykit and CSL wheels......

Well spoted! I also posted the Z in the same area when I joined the forum. Its actually the U Boat pen by the quy side in Bordeaux known as "Le Bassin à Flot".

I'm glad we all agree M should have gone further and as I wrote on an other post, purists (ie want a gear stick) who want a solid drive experience and do pleanty of track time end up flocking to Porsche for their GT3 or Lotus or Caterham, Corvette Z06 (sorry if I miss others).

Anyway, I pretty much new what I wanted to do with the Z but now I'm absolutely sure:

OBVIOUSLY THIS IS TOP OF MY HEAD ESTIMATES for nit pickers :)

1. Ditch the seats (Beedub rekons they're 40kg each :o ) GT3's CF buckets were more comfy for my lanky ass and communcate whats goping on with car better.
Cost £3k
weight saving 60kg
2. Brakes BBK 4K, 4kg saving
3. forged Wheels £3k, 6kg saving
4. Silencers £400, 3 kg saving
5. Exhaust system inc sports cats, 6k, 8kg saving (I need to check that one)
6. Suspension 2.5k
7. stipped out interior radio (its crap anyway)/GPS delete keep air con and leather cost 0. weight saving 20kg

Total cost 20k
weight saving 100kg bring the weight to 1350kg.

Then you could add CSL intake and Alpha N but then its another £10k

I can understand why some people fo for a supercharged option as its much better bang for you bucks, but its just not what I want to achieve, the car's plenty powerfull enough. You simply can't replace feedback that a thoughroughly developed chassis and lightweigh gives you.

Cost £3k Cobra/Recaro/Corbeau Kevlar seats in leather are around £1.5kweight saving 60kg
2. Brakes BBK 4K, 4kg saving £1k for 996GT3 4-pots all round or £2k for 996GT3 6-pot fronts and 4-pot rears3. forged Wheels £3k, 6kg saving BBS CH or BBS LM - £1.5k - if they are good enough for Manthey...
4. Silencers £400, 3 kg saving
5. Exhaust system inc sports cats, 6k, 8kg saving (I need to check that one)

For that money you are better off buying a 996GT3, which will keep its value better...

You can do it a lot cheaper, btw, if you shop around and do some of the work yourself...

Thanks pal. Yep worse case scenario! Tempting on a 996 GT3 but its just that bit too hard and the aeros are as sorted as for the 3.8. Bopping nose at 160kph all tucked down between 180kph/200 after that the wind does a really nice whoooshy sound.

I'm not ready to buy a Porsche yet and don't think I can afford a GT3 (he famously says...) My mate told me it not a matter of what yo can afford it a matter of will! :)

In all honesty, I'll do what I can with the Z until I get bored then buy something else.

Here is my though:
Z4M engine in front = wiggle bum
GT3 engine at back= wiggly front
answer: NSX Type R 2002 :D
