Gruppe M intake

The thought of adding more noise upfront is niggling in my mind and I'm considering going the Gruppe M intake route as I can't justify spending 3grand on the Evolve or CSL box. I've been looking through the forum but can't really get a definitive on the pros and cons... Who here has fitted one and do they cause any potential problems or are they simply a great load of noise with no drawbacks?
 
THere was one up here for sale only the other week for around £600. Still available I think.
 
I've just fitted one, the sound is awesome but might be a bit over the top for me.

Sounds daft but I'm undecided at the moment.

Saying that I only had it for a day behind the EML light came on for a faulty can shaft sensor.

Well, if you do change your mind, then I might be tempted to 'balance' my exhaust note with it :P

Although I keep flipping from wanting one, and then deciding I don't really need to spend £600+ on one, when it could be better used towards new suspension, getting the front-end freshened up, fitting my new brakes, etc. :oops:
 
Ive done as much research as I could,& there seems to be a divided opinion on them,some say they are great with no drawbacks,others claim of a drop in power,which as far as ive read is due to heatsoak from the engine bay.
I must say im very tempted myself,but from the pictures ive seen,they dont look like they fit properly around the grill area,which backs up the potential heatsoak issue.
As I said though,ive no first hand experience,just what ive read,still kinda want one though,if they were £450,id already have one fitted.
 
I didn't notice any loss of power at all and I was looking for it as I've had negative experiences on other cars.

As for heat soak, not sure if this covers but the housing and induction cone were all cold to touch after a good blast.
 
I've got one I am considering removing, I don't care for the extra noise (either way really) but want to be as quiet as possible for track days.
 
I dint think it's the "heat soak' that loses you power on the Z4M, it's the loss of the ram air effect as you speed up that loses you power. The faster you go, the more power you'll potentially lose.
 
I had one on my z3 mcoupe and it sounded brilliant. I don't think many people would notice a gain or loss on power with these fitted.
 
It does balance the noise with my ACS backboxes by adding a good dose of induction. Its a quality piece of kit. It adds a few ponies at top and it definitely climbs up the revs harder with more insistence. However it also magnifies the torque drop you get at around 3500 RPM before the engine comes on cam at 4000 RPM - although that could be down to my combo and the fact that I've not had it remapped. My outfitter has explained to me that ALL aftermarket "induction" systems tend to do that though. It can be quite annoying as at road speeds in a "social" gear you tend to be hovering around that RPM.

Otherwise, noise is just fab!
