Hi.
how about a new group buy for supercharger kits.
Im very interested of getting one for my 3.0 -2003.

Anyone that has done this before that can recomend what to go for and where to buy?

So any interests?

From my limited knowledge, I hear superchargers can be a nightmare, some people have a truck loads of issues, some have a few issues and a small amount have none.

If your knowledge is limited then why say what you've said? Why not wait for people with expansive knowledge (or even first hand experience) to post?

Not trying to be an Internet knobend but you run the risk of misinformimg people if you provide anecdotal information based on limited experience...

To the op - there was a group buy a while ago here - https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=130462

There were also a few fitting threads for owners who'd bought the kits, one of them linked below:

I'm sure if you search there are a few more floating about from others on the group buy list

I agree superchargers can be a nightmare and often are. It's usually the tune though.
Manufacturers have enormous experience and resources to make sure the engine calibration is OK in pretty much every circumstance from 10k feet above seal level and freezing conditions to the desert in the middle east.

No matter what they say aftermarket blower vendors just do not have these resources and the calibration is usually OK for the local conditions where they are.

If I was doing this again I would install the hardware, the vendors generic tune and drive it straight to someone who could retune it on a dyno. Be prepared for several iterations to get it right enough for where you generally drive it.

Modern ecus have hundreds of tables and thousands of parameters. Some have neural networks. This is non trivial to get right unlike distributor advance and carburetor jets!

So the bottom line is budget several thousand dollars to make it run right over and above the cost of the kit and installation.

Even if you think it runs good out of the box have it checked for afr and knock or it might go boom. It can be difficult to get an engine designed to be NA and reasonably high compressi9n at that to run well once boost increases the compression stresses. The opportunity for engine destruction is high.

A supercharger on a 20 year old car, you must be having a laugh. A neighbour tried that on an old mx5. Went down the road like stink but never came back.
On the other hand please go ahead that will reduce the number on the road and increase the value of my car.

I have had the pleasure of a ride in [ref]Worcester_spoon[/ref]’s supercharged 3.0 and several other members’ Z4Ms. The performance is at least comparable, with perhaps more bottom and mid-range grunt but less outright top end from the supercharged car. The performance advantage over a non-supercharged 3.0 is tangible (I had a 3.0Si coupe at the time).

The engineering of the supercharger kit looked amazing - there must be some pictures on here somewhere.

Perhaps the owner will be along soon to share his experience.

had my kit 10 years now and no issues with supercharger. Mine is VF engineering kit for the M54B30 engine. I use my car most days and short trips. defo would recommend it.
