No reason to disconnect.

Unless you're using a main soldering iron.

True, but I would still not trust residual current even with the battery disconnected.

Now you tell me - I was following your advice :poke:

Solder it guys, but don't leave the power connected if using a mains solder.

I did consider that though and left it disconnected for a long time before breaking out the solder.

Ah yes ... I did say that :D

Did you disconnect the positive terminal I take it then as otherwise you still make a circuit?

Yep, took both off (as I often do if I'm unsure what I'm doing)... but yes, thankfully it did occur to me that I could still make the circuit.

No need to disconnect both. With the negative removed the battery will be completely out of the circuit. It takes 2 connections for a circuit.

You complete the circuit with the earth from the (mains) soldering iron.

ok, I just recieved a package with my RCH+
Thank you GapTech
I plan to fit it on friday/saturday

today I just briefly read the install instruction - and what bothers me is a statement, that there's no cutting of the BMW loom required..
so how shall I connect the module??

I hope it will become more clear when I just start doing it - but, correct me if I'm wrong - the only reasonable way to fit it is juz cut the cables and.. exactly.. and what? add a third end to the cable? I mean one should cut the cable and connect the module 'in between'?

I haven't found any DIY of it on this forum, only saw a pic i Dice's post, which didn't give me any clue..

With the Remote control hood you connect the module wires onto the Z4 loom without breaking the existing connection to the plugs. With other modules like the Reinhold you have to cut some of the loom wires so they don't connect to their plugs any more.

Don't cut, just strip some of the insulation of the existing cable and wind the new module cable over it so it makes a good contact, then solder it onto it. That way, you have just added a cable to the existing one without cutting the existing one.

ok.. so just as I thought - there will be a ' Y ' shaped connection
I thought of it while reading the manual, but came to conclusion it will not work tht way.. well I guess my sense of electronics is a bit to small to understand it :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

thanks guys :)

Another very satisfied customer of the combined module. Very quick postage too. :D
It didn't work at the first attempt, but a bit more squeezing of the Scotchlok's did the job.

One thing I couldn't find earlier in the thread is how any existing remote roof operation is affected. I can confirm it's unchanged. I now use the three-press, which drops the windows a little, opens the roof, then puts the windows back up again. Although if I really wanted, I could still hold the button, upon which the windows drop fully then the roof opens.

I'd prefer to get the original remote opening switched off now, as I sometimes return to the car to find I must've sat on the button or similar and the windows are part-open. A couple of times the roof has been ajar. The Gaptech opening routine is so much better, I've no need to keep the original remote roof active. Just need to find an Indy to recode, and get some other settings done too.

and one more question about the One Touch Module - it allows the roof to open/close while driving - but until what speed? does it have any blockade avoiding opening it unwillingly while driving fast?

yes - you need to be basically stopped before it will go up or down - maybe under 5km/h to make it engage. you can start driving while it is going down/up, but obviously driving fast is not a good idea, it only takes 10 secs!

How can i get in on a group buy? i have scanned the posts but im going blind. :|

I have noticed that my windows do not go back up once the roof is put up. is this normal? :?

Keep your finger on the button longer when you close it (ie after the roof is closed, keep your finger on the "close" button).

With this module, you don't need to do that anyway.

Fitted mine at lunch but on my first press the windows dropped and then nothing. I tried the remote and occasionaly i get the windows to drop but then nothing. Any ideas.

Did you use the provided scotch locks or solder?

Normally it means a bad connection somewhere, so you will have to open it up again to make sure all connections are good (if using the scotch locks, press the metal bit down again with some pliers to ensure good contact).

Sorted it now. It was the blue clamp on the small red wire that wasn't making a good contact. Works great now.
