Group buy - remote roof / remote roof one touch ** Closed **

One issue I can see with press and hold is that you may accidently push the button too long when only wanting to lock the car. This could be dangerous or undesired eg if you have the softtop covers in place. Of course you can stop it again by pressing another button but then it may be too late.

The 3 button presses gives a clear sign that you wish to close/open the roof.

yes, but like the one touch, which overrides the need to hold the dash buttons throughout the cycle, this also means you don't have to hold the keyfob during the whole cycle, just for a short period and then you let go.

I think you miss my point - if the new remote module uses a hold on the lock button and the car has the existing hold button to raise roof enabled, would the holding of the button, even for a couple of secs, not trigger the start of the existing remote roof raise, and would that interfere with the new module?

I don't see your point.
Its the same argument as the 'One Touch Module' when fitted to the dash buttons.

You can also say that the One Touch Module "clashes with the existing hold to raise" process of the dash button, because an extended press of the dash button has also "triggered the start of the existing roof raise",
but it still carries on even though the process had started as you would have normally.

So then why would the keyfob be any different, people have them programmed to mimic the exact control offered by the dash buttons. The remote module would then allow keyfob 'one touch' operation.
 
Agreed. The new box will receive the signal it requires and does its job, does not matter what you had programmed or not.

"Normally" it would stop if you let the button go on the "Close", but now the module will take over and complete the job for you. The same with the dash button for the opening. Normally, it would stop as soon as you let the button go, but the module does the rest of the job for you.
 
It was based on my understanding of the wiring and how the modules work. From wiring mine in, i think the one touch sits on the same wires as the existing switch, and keeps the circuit going for a bit after the button is released - electrics wise, its no different to if you'd held the button down.7

Remote roof I don't think can be hijacking the normal keyfob mechanism in the same way, as it works with or without the feature enabled, and wires into the normal roof buttons, so guess it's doing a similar thing here to the one touch, leaving the existing key fob hold to raise/lower as is.

Anyhow, not really here to argue or that bothered - if it works, it works!

So have we reached a definitive answer on this yet?
Personally I'd prefer to go with a combination of button presses rather than a longer single press for roof up.
As long as we stick with 3 quick presses of the unlock button for roof down, I'll be happy.
 
I guess Mr gap tech will decide final combination with some testing. Hopefully he sorts it out soon! Remote roof is something I've always wanted 8)

Hi all.
All coded and tested and working now, Ive gone with the three clicks for the raise and the lower;
Unlock - Unlock - Unlock to drop the hood
Unlock - Unlock - Lock to raise the hood. The last click also locks the car and sets the alarm, if you then wanted to disable the Tilt/Ultrasonic you could press the Lock again.
I've done lots of testing (had a flat battery for my trouble) and it is working great. I even enlisted PVR to give me his opinion and his feedback on the operation is good.
But due to Farnell sending the wrong items and the extra coding and testing this week I won't be able to post anything until Tuesday 15 March for delivery Wednesday, sorry.
