Anyone got it working using scotch locks?

I did but two of the connectors failed to make contact the first time. You'll need a good pair of pliers and a vice like grip to get them to work.

Which is what I did and cut the wire :D

Dont think you would say that if you saw me soldering! I had a right time getting the solder to stick to the wire..!

Fitted mine today with soldered connections.
When it arrived my good lady said
'Is that it?'
'£100 and that's it?'

Let me tell you..... worth every penny!!
Thanks GapTech

If any of you are having trouble getting the solder to flow properly. Its worth investing in some soldering flux; makes it easy to get a good quality joint.

I used a surgical knife to strip a bit of the wire out. My trick is to hold the knife under the wire and then roll the wire over the blade. Just need to be careful to get enough pressure cut the insulation but not too much to damage the wire. Once two cuts are made at the desired distance, they are joined with a horizontal cut and the insulation pealed off.

Well it arrived today - can't believe how compact it is - very impressive!

On another note, the postman just put it through the letterbox despite it being sent recorded delivery and no one being in

and fitted....

So if my math is correct....23 minutes including emails to the Forum?
What am I worrying about?
Shouldn't take me any longer than 3..4 hours , huh? :headbang:

i have used those mid wire strippers many times, and never cut a wire. the thought never crossed my mind till now. they kind of grab the casing and pull it apart exposing about 1cm of wire.

I would usually put the heat shrink on the wires of the gaptech unit before soldering them on, then pull the heat shrink down over the joint. obviously this depends how much space there is, and i have not looked yet. will have a look and take a pic when i get my OTH+R. or ill use tape and pretend i never made this comment

I also use the mid wire strippers, It just pushes the insulation apart for about 5mm, that is enough to wrap a stripped end of the gaptech unit's wire around,
then solder together. and cover with insulation tape then wrap the cables back together which stops the individual joint's tape from peeling off in the future,
No need to ever revisit unlike Scotchloks, which I have found in the past, can work loose.

I just paid for mine... OTH+R

Postal address was my parents... will fit it in 3 weeks when i get back from hols... to give me something to look forward too!!!

Just paid for a "Remote Only" unit to keep the previously fitted "OTH" unit company......

I might even make an attempt to solder all the connections and wrap the wires with loom tape this time.

I'd love to get one of these modules. I believe I would need both the remote and the one touch module. However, I am absolutely clueless when it comes to DIY. Would anyone be able to help me fit the modules? I live in the North West of the UK, on the Wirral but can travel a reasonable distance and buy you a couple of pints for your trouble! (My Z is a 2004 2.5i).

WIll this also void my AUC warranty with BMW?

Ha... the installation had to wait... 2hrs 5mins... proud of myself to be honest... however I did think of a great mod while re-fitting the console...

An iPad would fit nicely in that area if mounted correctly instead of the centre console... then all we need is an app (I can develop it but GapTech you're in charge of the hardware) to replace the tyre pressure monitor and the DSC button etc...
