Group Buy for Brakes

I am looking for front Ultimax discs and front EBC pads (still not 100% sure on whether to go for green or redstuff, I'll also maybe purchase rears too if the price is right).

The front discs and pads can be sourced from ebcbrakesdirect as klarky says for about £196 (redstuff) delivered using a discount code. Add another £40 or so for rear pads too.

I believe the prices for Ultimax are very similar to Grooved and dimpled but will ask.
Based on his quoted prices fronts (3.0 Z4) are coming out at £141.73 and rears at £166.09 both with greenstuff pads, so a significant reduction from that quoted on ebcbrakesdirect. In fact for both axles you would save over £170 (£476 plays £307.82??) on those prices.
We need another couple of names though to meet his min 10 requirement

Why are the rears more expensive than the fronts? Its typically the other way around as the fronts are larger... also might I suggest if we do get a number of people interested that contacting ebcbrakesdirect and brakes4u to name but two companies may be worthwhile?

I got discs/pads front and rear (Textar/ATE as per OEM) from ECP for £330 all in iirc.

They would give a discount for a bigger buy, so maybe around £300 the lot if you bought 5+ sets...

For those who might be just wanting OE replacement stuff at a good price :)

As per rear discs being more expensive, they were ~ £45 each for me on the above costing. They are not common to other models, just Z4 rears, so no economies of scale on production I guess.

For my M5 and Z4MC I can get yellowstuff front pads for £39, rear pads for £28 and can get standard quality discs for £40 each - so about £150 all in - all due to me getting at 50% discount for being a motorsport marshal.

All you've got to do is become a motorsport marshal is register with the MSA (and/or your local motorsports club, british motorsport marshal club, etc.), do a couple of days 'on the bank' and you'll get your license number which you can then relay to Bob at EBC and get you're 50% discount like me :P

Hey great idea - how long would this membership process take including the days 'on the bank', days, weeks or months - perhaps even a year!
How about you bought ten sets of brakes and we pay you 'commission'??!

No idea why they are more expensive.
Tried the group buy with ebcbrakesdirect but they just keep referring me to the website prices.

I can only get two or three sets a year as Bob is also a marshal and it would not be right to profit from the scheme without giving some free time back to the motorsport community. Although some of the marshals who also race go through a set a day and they seem to get lots from him - I'd have to ask, but I'd assume he'd prefer it if the recipients were marshals too!

You can go 'on bank' the as soon as you want, but the 'process' of getting your number & licence is not particularly quick - i.e it can take 2 months (if they don't lose it).

The lowest level of commitment is 2 or 3 training days every 2 years, although I think you'd probably want to do a couple of selected days at a motor racing circuit near to your home.
You usually get a ticket for yourself and a spare to do with as you wish, and as a trainee you'll be told where to stand and what to do, but generally you'll just be watching the racing and staying out of the way if anything does happen - always looking after yourself in the first instance.

You can marshal at car races, motorbike races, trials, hill-climbs, sprints, rallies, etc. - whatever your preference. I stick to car racing, hillclimbs & sprints at Oulton Park, Anglesey, Loton Park & Aintree.

If you want any info on marshalling, then there's a forum we use at 10Tenths - http://www.ten-tenths.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=39

Right just so we are clear and also for people to confirm what they require and I have their correct car details.
1. tdz840 - '05 3.0 Grooved and dimpled (or Ultmax) + greenstuff front and rear
2. Peddy '04 3.0 Ultimax front and rear, pads to be confirmed (?)
3. Elliot_holder 3.0 (year?) Rear standard pads & discs
4. Greeno '03 2.5 Standard pads and discs all round
5. Klarky '53 2.5 red stuff pads all round
6. BigShurv '03 3.0 Ultimax Front and rear + green stuff pads
7. XSZ (car??) Ultimax front + pads (type?)
8. Andy B '57 2.5 3 series Grooved and dimpled all round + green stuff pads

Just two more, I would get the missus A3 done but a lot of expense for the month.
Shipping is coming in around £15 but they are at Leatherhead - my neck of the woods. I would pick up two lots (me and Andy B ) potentially saving £30, anyone close to Fareham I can provide the same arrangement and we all benefit (you dont save the whole 15 squid  )
Can I ask that you all check your particulars and confirm this is what you require as I will use the list to obtain the best prices for all of you
Russ

Another supplier with prices based on grooved and drilled but no specified supplier (I have asked and to clarfy postion against faulty goods):

hi Russ
we really appreciate the opportunity to price for your forum
The main problem we have is that our product prices on ebay really are down to minimum margins, and we will find it difficult to offer any substantial discount over those prices.
The 300mm discs on ebay are £74.99 per pair. For 5 or more we can supply for £64.99 per pair,
The 325mm on ebay are £99.99 per pair, but for 5 + we can do for £81.99 per pair,
The rear discs are not currently listed on ebay but we can supply 5 + for £77.99 per pair,

P+P is £5 per pair of discs,

We hope these are prices that are tempting on the forum!

Any questions just let us know,
Thanks
Gavin

The prices above are also inclusive of mintex pads (I thinks!) so around £160 all in!!
One question that is now raised based on these sizes which is which, 300mm = 2.5 and 325mm=3.0??
Cheers
Russ

Wow, juste what i need ! :D
I would be interested in a set of rear Ultimax discs for my 2.5i (USR7195), and also in "some" pads (2 sets of front RedStuff and 1 set of rear RedStuff, but not for a Z4, for an S2K...).
Only problem : i live in France, so shipping charges might be a problem.
If it's not too much a problem (shipiing AND the S2K thingy...), i would be much much interested in the group by. Otherwise, well....

All the suppliers are happy to quote different Z4 cars as well as different makes.
I will need the details of the S2k though unless of course there is no difference between models and years.
Can I ask that you add your details to the list; that should make the ten so I will start ringing around
Russ

Interbnational shipping is no issues already asked the question. Will get the price for France

That's wonderful. I'll get the exact details on the S2K pads tomorrow morning and i'll post them here in the right format.
What is the target date for the end of the group buy ?
I am personnally in no hurry, but my friend with the S2K could be a bit...

2.5i front : 286mm x 22, vented
2.5i rear : 280x10, solid
3.0i front : 300x22, vented
3.0i rear : 294x19, vented.
This applies to cars BEFORE the facelift.

325mm discs are for the 3.0si, as far as i know.
