Ground To A Halt

The car literally ground to a halt this morning with a horrific grinding sound from the rear axle. Jolted around a bit and then lost all drive to the wheels. Only had my end of warranty check about 5 weeks ago and nothing was picked up. Hopefully this should be covered by the extended warranty.
 
Haven't heard back yet, but I guess the rear differential is the most likely suspect. Car only has 7.5K on the clock, too. Got a 520d as a loaner for now.

Oh dear deffo sounds differential from what you say. Should be covered. Few stories on here about noisy diffs.
 
Had the rear diff replaced. Cost to me was £250 excess on the insurance. Given that its 5 weeks since it's warranty check and 7,500 on the clock I've asked them to review that.
