Ground location for Add-a-fuse?

I'm in the process of adding an add-a-fuse with an cigarette lighter extension but it's not working and I think it might be to do with the ground wire. I have read somewhere that the bolt that holds the glove compartment to the dash is a good place to put the ground but this doesn't seem to work. Any ideas where the ground can go?

I have 2 10amp fuses in the add-a-fuse and have tried various locations on the fuse box to no effect. When I touch the ground wire to the bit of chassis I can see behind the dash I get a spark but no power on the cigarette extension so I'm guessing the wires are the right way round when it does this?
 
Do you have a volt meter? That is the quickest way to establish it. Any bolt in the chassis will do though or join an existing wire.

As a general guide, but always test with a meter first, in BMW's wiring schema brown wires are ground

Yes, brown should be ground - after checking with a multimeter, what I would do is cut the brown wire in a suitable location, strip the ends, and crimp the new connection in place using either a straight crimp connector or a bullet connector (insulated crimps, obviously)
 
There is a small metal bar in front of the fuses, that is what I have soldered the earth onto for my Brodit active mount.
