Grom BT3 Not recognised as CD changer - 03 z4 with NAV

Hi,

I fitted a grom BT3 BMW with harness to the port where the CD changer should be. It is now not picking up the Grom when I turn on the radio, but I am able to connect to the Grom by Bluetooth. I've checked all the wiring and it seems fine. Anybody know why this wouldn't be connecting?

Thanks.

you will probably get a better response if you intro yourself in the newbies section, and pop up some pictures of your z.
welcome anyway. :)

Aren't you supposed to access the GROM via the CD button still!? From memory the grom unit mimics the multi-changer

Agree. You need to scroll through the Mode button - radio, CD, CD changer. The GROM won't automatically override radio mode. When you get to the right mode you should get a voice saying 'USB' or similar - that's the GROM telling you what it is using as an input.
Otherwise check both CD Changer connectors are firmly plugged into the GROM adaptor cable.

That was it!!! I knew it was something like that. I used to have a grom unit back when I had a 330Ci M Sport ... same unit just different connection cable, but I presume worked the same. Had to select CD Changer, and the Grom can mimic 6 different cds (I used them as diff playlists)... I Imagine their units have improved software/firmware wise over the years

Might be worth pulling the head unit just to make sure the changer plug it is still connected that end.

The GROM is alive as your phone can see it. But the head unit can't. Seems like a connection somewhere. srhutch is right, could be connections at the head unit, or could the connections at the GROM end. I had problems with a secondhand GROM, turned out to be a dodgy adapter cable, once replaced with a new cable all was well.

When I fitted mine, thought I had the choice between the boot CD changer or the head unit.

So, maybe try rewiring from the head unit?
