Grom BT3 E85 / E86 discount (with HOW 2 pics)

Fitted mine today. Getting to wires in the boot was a pita and in the end brute force took over. Once in the whole in the boot it was mega easy. Connect everything up drill a small hole to the glove box then pull iPhone lighting cable through plug it in the usb. Then put the boot back together, again a pain but it all went back together okish. All in took about an hour. No more cds 👍

Well... for those with a //M, fitting’s a little more complicated than a standard Z, so here goes.

1. Tools for the job, trim removal tool, Phillips screwdriver, double sided sticky tape, tape, bowl for screws & gromets & a hoover
2. Disconnect rear boot light
3. Undo the 4 Phillips screws holding the plastic panel with warning triangle
4. Remove both rear light bulb access covers & remove all parts
5. Remove floor
6. Remove left side black grommet next to light cluster
7. Remove grommet on boot floor holding rear vertical carpet
8. Remove left side trim... there are two internal clips that a trim removal tool makes light work of
9. Twist left carpet & rear carpet & support it anyway u like
10. Mine has a CD Player & removing the connectors was PITA
11. Connect with GROM wiring, using double sided tape to stop them rattling
12. Feed through & tie off at regular intervals to the left side to wheel arch
13. Remove roof sensor thingy & rear rubber boot seal - u do not need to release boot lining (like I did) as is a PITA to put back properly
14. Fit mic per pic & feed to rear
15. I sited the GROM unit about 50cm away from car Ariel, sticking to side of car with double sided tape for unit, excess cable & other bits
16. FIT ALL connectors before sticking to side of car
17. Test your handiwork before reassembly
18. Take your time & make it look like no one was there ;@)
19. Good hunting

All fitted and working nicely in my coupe!

I took a slightly different route in removing the rear centre storage compartment. Took about an hour to fit.

Fitted mine today .... what a great bit of kit

Really pleased I can listen to my music from my phone now / charge / hands free

I already have the GROM in my Z4C. I went for fitting it in the middle. I drilled a small hole in the in the bottom tray of the middle compartment between the seats. Then fed a USB cable through from the GROM. This means I can keep an iPod permanently connected to the GROM, but get at it easily if needed. Or plug in my phone to charge easily.

This could be what I've been looking for. My E85 has BT, MFSW and 6CD so I assume it'll integrate well.

Does it display on the Pro Nav secreen like the original BT?

You need to check carefully as not sure it’s designed for use in Nav based cars - Either call GROM or Roy & they should be able to advise

Ah, glad I asked. Thanks for that.
