How did BMW decide which model got which grill with the Z4?

With the E46, all 6cyl got the chrome one, 4pots got the black one. It's obviously not the case with the Z4 - was it just the 3.0 that got the chrome grill? It looks so much better than the black one that mine is coming with. Where can i buy it?
 
The 3.0 got the chrome with grey bars.
The others have black bars.

I was looking for the black version for my 3.0 since my Z is black, we may be able to arrange a swap :wink:
 
With epoxy paint, prep, etc., this project will turn out to be a real Rube Goldberg. Best just to buy the surrounds from Bavauto and not jack with all this assy, paint etc.

Unless you use a flex additive in the paint the tiniest of pebble will chip the paint.

What you need to do is use an adhesion promoter called 'Grip 4' then high build primer and paint, done mine this way and stone chips are no issue... :thumbsup:

Im Wirral, about 2 to 2 1/2 hour drive. Maybe we could meet in the middle on a nice Saturday if we have one? Or if you fancy the lakes on the 18th?
 
I swapped my black grilles for silver so I've got a black set for sale if anyones interested!

Price is £15 for the pair plus postage. I'll have to find them first and make sure they're in perfect condition. They were before I put them into storage so they should be OK. I'll have a look tonight.

Sounds a good price to me, say £20 posted? When you can find them :thumbsup:

Sorry Alex. This is cheaper and I prefer to keep the standard ones incase I ever want to change back for selling it on.
 
I just replaced my coupe's 3.0 "graphite" grilles with the 2.5 version (black gills and chrome rim). Being jet black, the black gills look so much better... and the chrome rim helps to give just the right accent and retain the signature BMW kidney look. Honestly, I wish they would allow buyers to select these to best match the car's aesthetic and not just be model-dependent.

So I've got a spare set of graphite grilles for anyone interested. And I'm curious if the xenons were available with black housings as I'm curious about blacking those out as well.

They do....you just have to pay double for the option. :roll:

Found them! They're in perfect condition and they even come with a couple of free bugs but I'm considering cleaning the bugs off to save on weight and therefore postage costs. £20 all in is fine, PM me your address and I'll get them posted.
