Hi All,

Just a quick hello and a massive thank you, this forum provided me with so much info when choosing my zed and some really useful advice on what to look out for so thanks :)

Anyway, picked up my first ever convertible this weekend 56 2.0 sport, and got rid of a very troublesome RX8. The car is absolutely stunning and i couldnt be happier, i was supposed to be going viewing a "sensible" Lexus IS220 but after seeing the car and i knew i had to have it, the next problem came with being a lofty 6 foot 7 but after some severe seat adjusting the test drive conviced myself the car was the one for me. Spec wise i would of preffered a bigger engine but since it was supposed to be a "sensible" car the 2.0 provided me with some ammo against the missus with lower running costs than the RX8.

A few minor tweaks planned, keeping eyes open for a hardtop and cheap wind deflector, stubby has been delivered and fitted :D Got chrome exhaust trim and brushed alloy radio button (my original plastic black one has faded badly) on the way. Also thanks to a very useful thread from sk93 have made my own AUX cable, however, after about 45 minutes trying to get the vents off today im ready to chuck in the towel! Cant seem to get the silver clip to go down on one side and cant even see it on the other side! Its infuriating! :headbang:

Few quick questions, the roof looks like it is soaking up water rather than beading off, am i best applying a protector before winter? I noticed halfords had a 3 for 2 offer on, including the AutoGlym kit or is it worth paying for the BMW one? Also im not sure if the roof drains have ever been cleared, is it a good idea that i put an afternoon aside to get this done pre winter?

Only one quick camera phone snap really, will add more when/if the weather clears up!

Hello and welcome :D

congrats on the 'sensible' purchase

Drain holes are worth making sure they are clear, though the problem with the roof motor drowning is I believe alot less (if not fixed) on the post facelift models (like yours).

Vents - some seem to come out easy others less so - perseverance :D

Welcome. There is plenty of advise on roof maintenance.

The Z4 is a soak through roof rather than a run off roof like a Merc CLK. I use a small amount of autoglym roof cleaner to clean the junk off it and the BMW roof aerosol to provide protection. I used the autoglym set on my CLK but it is quite a different roof style.

Welcome from a fellow Newbie

I have been using the Autoglym soft top kit and have been perfectly happy with it. Keeps the roof looking a dark black and alot of the water beads so just runs off when I'm driving
