Greetings from a ex s2000 to a z4 coupe owner

Hi all,

i picked up my Coupe from BMW Elm's Cambridge last week after some long soul searching. I was a die hard S2000 driver, had one a year ago and longed for another but after a few test drives decided i wanted something different and again a car that is not so common. That's when i stumbled on the Z4 coupe. Wasn't sure i could afford the prices so looked for one around 16k but ended up getting one for 18k from a BMW dealer! She has Satnav, grey Napa seats, 10 speaker music system, ipod connector, engine strut, AC Schnitzer pedals and foot rest, xenon’s and the non-smoker pack. She is as good as new! I love the colour, it’s almost pearlescent.

A question: i had the body care and alloy protection package thrown in, is it any good?

I too had an S2000
I read too many stories on the S2K forum about challenges in the wet (ditch magnets) which made me be very careful with it
Few such stories here

Welcome :)

Lost the back end of the S2 a few times which made my trousers change colour! Loved the roar of the vtec at 6500 revs! So far the Coupe impresses me with the on-tap power, no beasting it like the S2. Funny how i have read reviews saying the Z4 cabin is cramped, it's bigger than the S2 and classier!

Another ex s2000 owner here to. Unfortuneatly mine did come to a sticky end! You will love the z4 it's just so much better day to day (as long as u get rid of the run flat tyres) the s2 is very good but that purity that so many go on about is only accessible some of the time and can so easily go so wrong. The z4 will do it all if u want, change the camber and pads and enjoy a track day or two to really find out just how good it is!

Thanks for the welcome, the torque is already noticable. One thing i have noticed is the coupe is driven in higher gears from standing, would you agree?

Welcome, I'm new as well, this is a great forum for getting to know your z! You are right about the gearing, I drove my clio 172 for first time on ages and kept putting it on third at junctions and making it struggle, whereas the bmw juast pulls!

Hello and welcome

i'm also an ex s2k owner.... imo the s2k was more fun to "hoon" around in, especially the sound it makes... however the lack of torque in it used to really annoy me.

The interior on the Z4 is much better, more solid, not so jananese cheap. And the chunky steering wheel is a million times better. I preferred the sports seats on the S2K though... the electric sport seats in the Z are not so supportive and i find the electric part quite cumbersome and slow

The Z4 feels much faster although in reality i dont think it is that much faster (if at all) as i still have a few friends with S2K's and on sprinted drives they managed to keep up.

Hello and welcome. A Z4C in Stratus Grey is a spectactularly good choice    (if I don't mind saying so myself...)

Welcome to the coupe club :D

I liked the roar of the extra 100 bhp with the S2 on Vtec and actualy prefer'd the steering wheel too. I was left standing by a few z4's in the past as the oil hadn't warmed up on the S2, i like that instant power it gives you and of course the torque.

I will possibly have another S2, especdialy as they are stopping the whole Vtec thing, not so sure about tyhe new Z4 look, but im new to the whole z4 world and still learning..
