Green Windshield?

After unsuccessful after market windshields being fitted, twice, i purchased a BMW screen for them to fit.
When i had quote from BMW it said green, but when supplied it had very little in any sort of tint i could see.
Very subtle.

Now years ago i had a Sundim Triplex screen on a Triumph TR7, that did go darker in sunlight. 1970's tech.

If you look at your tag picture, it is slightly tinted.

You could get a free replacement if you can show your insurance company that the pitting is so bad that it could be a safety issue.

Got a genuine Merc replacement of my SLK through Autoglass a few years ago using this strategy.

I have the slightly darker (Wouldn't have said it was green) 'sun band' across the top of my screen. Not sure if it was standard on the car (35i) when new or a factory option.
It's very discreet/hardly noticeable.

Maybe its me but I just dont understand anyone actually paying for a new windscreen.
Just tap it with a hammer, pay your £10 excess and Autoglass will come to you and fit a brand new screen wherever you are and yes OEM.
I had a genuine broken screen a few years back on another vehicle, I was talking to the fitter and he was quite open about the fact that 'everyone does it'.......

Err? Maybe that doesn't work in Ohio?

I was wondering if he could pay for it using Green (Wind)Shield Stamps?

(With apologies to anyone not in the UK or under the age of 50  )

Now I've owned umpteen Jaguars and Jensens over the years, all fitted with Sundym glass. It was a slight green tint. They never went "darker" in sunlight. They didn't have that tech in the 1970s. Not like the current Pilkington "Sundym Select" which is a different thing altogether.

My TR7 windshield went greener in cold weather. Probably way light refracted at different temperatures.

I had a 2004 330d which had a UV coated screen as a factory option- that looked green

It was a great signal blocker for portable sat nav!

Great responses... I think I have a better understanding of it. Apparently, the glass installed isn't OEM either but by some Pennsylvania glass company. After getting that replaced, I've been told to get the new glass ceramic coated as well. Is this a thing?

Have a look at the youtube clip Beedub has added a link for in this thread:- https://z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=138169

Here UK BMW supplied me a Carlex windshield as OEM, seems like an American company.

The 2 Chinese made windshields they first fitted were rubbish.
