The only problem with some of the lovely roads in Scotland, is there's only one road to wherever you're going - so if it's blocked or busy you're screwed :P

At least you have other options to get to most places in Wales.

I'm a bit north of you, in Liverpool, but due to the varied starting points of friends we decided that Welshpool would be our 'mid-point' for starting/ending our long weekend tours.

We usually do north Wales (across to Barmouth, up to Dolgellau, Betws-y-Coed, Snowdonia, Bala) on day 1, mid Wales (Elan Valley, Rhayader, Devil's Bridge, Aberystwyth) on day 2, and south Wales (through Newtown to Builth and the Brecons/Black Mountains) on day 3.

Devils Bridge just off that road 👍
BTW I run a B&B here

Just get up earlier. :poke:

Loch Lomond road at 5.00 am on a Sunday morning is epic. By 7. am it's a crawl.

A470 through central wales set off 10:00 pm from Lamberis. Also a pretty special drive. I know the A470 a lot better than the Scottish roads though.

Need to go and drive the A44 now. :D :driving:

IMHO the best concentration of driving roads in the country is in the Scottish borders. Peter Bondars 'Border Reivers' weekends out of Jedburgh are absolutely epic for quality fast driving. Mile after mile of sweeping, undulating, testing roads. Fabulous scenery, next to no speed cameras and you barely see the police :driving:

Was up around Loch Lomond way the other day. Went for a walk up Ben A'an, which gave amazing views. I've never been one for hill walking, but now I've done one I want to do many more

Nice photo Ben. The only way from here is up. A few hill walks, then before you even no the difference your climbing mountains.

The combination of a great drive up and back in the Zed for a days walking the hills or climbing a few crags, is my idea of a perfect day. 8)
