Great fuel consumption ...

For those thinking that an M uses too much petrol, I managed 30.3 MPG on a 700 miles trip which included about 2 hours worth of stationary traffic jams.

This is keeping within the speed limit tolerance of 10% + 2 on the motorways and mostly on cruise. Temperature was 25c and top down driving (of course).

I managed 30 on a nice gentle drive around but it is sitting around the 22mpg mark normally.

26mpg in my 2.5l, according to the OBC for the daily Central London to Osterley (and back) commute.

Can do much better on the motorway, but having tested it out it seems around 55mph yields the highest MPG. Needless to say, once I found that out I put the pedal back to the floor.

Over the past 2 week I logged just over 3,000 miles with an average of 32.3 mpg in my 06 3.0si... :)

I've actually managed 31.3 on a 220 mile round journey.

Straight motorway virtually 75% of the way, stick it on cruise and don't worry about the cameras.

Averaging about 23 I think at the moment. Pleasantly surprised

I average 30 in the alpina (I don't drive gently!) and regularly get high 30's and even 40 if extra urban.
But I guess I'm 30bhp down on power....hey what am i doing posting here....I don't drive an M!

You are driving all wrong!! You are not supposed to get that sort of consumption if you drive properly :D

I get 18 mpg (US) in mixed city/highway driving - but then again I drive properly and use the whole rev range

Rich are you just doing this to pee me off, mines currently averaged 22 since I picked it up, although it has been getting some hammer. :P

LOL, of course! I have to get my own back for not having an lsd somehow!
Bet you are loving it! Do you miss the Alpina even a little bit? I'm absolutely loving it at the moment...but it think the brake disks are almost shot, possibly an excuse for an upgrade in the nearish future :|

I've not the slightest knowledge what mileage I get;
'cause I don't give a rats arse.

- Drive it the way it was designed to run
:driving: :D

I'm averaging 22 mpg in mixed city & highway driving so I've been pleased. My 04 3.0 only made about 26 mpg with the exact same driving habits.

I just drove 300 highway miles since yesterday and I'm afraid I have a difficult time exercising restraint with that pedal on the right. This trip, I managed 23.7 but I had some fun on the highway entrance ramps. I found premium 94 octane for $2.99 so I wasn't too concerned.

Rich, the M is really great and I'm learning more each trip. Now I only wish I'd put a diff in the Alp years ago. Give Birds a ring and do it, you won't regret it.
The brakes had begun to rumble a bit and I suppose 40k could be time for an upgrade. The consumption of the Alp is amazing, even when thrashed it still doesn't drink too heavily. The performance difference isn't massive, the M is just a bit raw, whereas the Alp is a bit more subtle and less in your face.
Do I miss the Alp, well the other day I tried to use the cup holders in the M. Amazed I haven't got any so, yes I suppose I do miss something

Only kidding, The M doesn't attract the same attention the Alp did, glad to hear you're still enjoying it. Phone Birds tomorrow.

Oh my god, I almost put that down on my list of things to do for tomorrow...Alison will kill me...errr...must resist!

Brakes first.....just need to find a decent set, did you find the brakes good when they were in good condition, or did they leave you wanting? Not sure if I should get a set or Brembo's or the like, or just change for a good set of disks. The feel is not there like it was on the maser spyder or the Lancia (but it did have f40 brakes).

Glad you are enjoying!

Don't tell her, just ring them

The lack of feel could be down to the pads, they are a bit slow to respond in comparison to the OEM. The standard brakes were fine for road use. I'd suspect you might just need some new disks. Be careful what you choose in aftermarket stuff. I'd stick with OEM.
