Great drives

I don't think I've seen this kind of post on this forum, but here goes.

There is a great stretch of road near us called by the locals and the biking fraternity as the Torpoint Twists. It's a great stretch of road 10 miles in length that driven at or below the speed limit is quite exhilarating. Only minor problem is motorcyclists keep writing themselves off on this stretch.

Directions: Coming from England (Plymouth) via the Torpoint Ferry take the A374 from Torpoint through Antony to Trerulefoot roundabout follow the signs to Liskeard.

If you are in Cornwall enjoy.
P.S. Have a look at it on google maps, there some interesting corners and a Chicane.

I suspect a lot of us have a stretch of road that we like to drive. There is a section of winding, twisting road from my home that makes about a 6.8 miles circuit. I only drive the route at night, usually late at night. That way I can see if another car is coming the other way from their headlights well before they are visible. Yes, I push it into the corners so long as a car is not coming the other way. It's a rural 2 lane road and it too is quite exhilarating to drive even at the speed limit. (Note: I don't always follow the suggested speed for the curves)

The Cat & Fiddle near Buxton is a good stretch of twisty road too, also a favourite for the biking-folk. However they have since put a speed limit of 50 together with average speed cameras all the way along :(

Still wouldn't mind trying the Nurburgring, or that road in Romania the boys from Top Gear found!

That section from Torpoint is a good-un. Had a few blasts following a mate in his Z3 along there, I was surprised how quick a 1.9 Z3 can be if the driver really knows the road and shows that 4-pot no mercy! :driving:

This would be a nice addition to the roadtrip section

The old road from Rye in East Sussex past Iden Lock to Appledore in Kent always used to be a favourite for a blast, haven't driven it for years.

Did find some nice roads in the cotswolds last year on a brief buzz through. Am planning to head that way later this year, if anyone has a suggestion for a nice scenic trip in that direction it would be most welcome :)

These days, anywhere with a stretch of fresh new asphalt would do me just fine

Agreed. Fed up of line being determined by where the smallest pot holed are! Loads of good roads in Wales, mainly north Wales for me. Try B5106 Conwy to betws y coed and Worlds end nr Wrexham to Llangollen. Also mull makes Is worth a visit. Off to the isle of man soon for a thrash. Heard mixed reviews...

Forgot to mention did 4500 miles in 14 days last summer taking in holland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, italy, France, and Spain, which was nice.

Cat and Fiddle is a good road but I've found there's always a car ahead of you so you can't do your own pace.

Great drives then? Since I'm in Scotland I feel it would be unfair to boast :D

:driving:  :driving:

I can say though when I live in Cambridgeshire I didn't find any! Flat and boring, apart from the bits where you nearly get thrown into a deep drain because the roads collapsing.

Can I recommend the Beachy Head Road, great road to drive, great views and there is a couple of great pubs in the area too. Well worth it if you're in that neck of the woods.
