No you don't - if you don't use the TV for receiving signals, you don't need one (e.g. just for gaming or for work presentations).

That's not how I understood it... if the tv is capable of receiving tv then you must have a license for it... same with a VCR... if it has a tuner in is so it CAN receive TV then you must have a license. Otherwise people would just say they don't watch BBC to avoid the charge.

You do not need a TV Licence if you only use your TV to watch videos and DVDs or as a monitor for your games console.

It applies to any channel, not just BBC.

yeah, what I was meaning is people could just say they dont use the tv side of it... I dont think that would get you off the license tax fee

It would - if it is not plugged in to the antenna when they visit and you confirm you do not use it for such - you don't need to pay.

Not that I would do something like that, but it is a good idea.

When I got my first house I was only in it for 3 months of the year. I has 6 weeks at home then went away for 3 months. I called the TV licence people and asked to cancel the licence. I was told to write a letter, provide evidance of moving house etc...
They did not have an option for somebody who just didn't want to watch TV. Now I have to pay for 9 months I don't watch..!

Also, did you know if you buy a new TV from somewhere like Curry's, the TV Licence lot get told about it! I recently bought a new TV and I have just moved house. I had a licence but they hadn't changed over addresses on their records! I got a letter telling me they had noticed I had just bought a new TV and they didn't have a TV license registered with me at that house!! Talk about Big Brother watching!!

Yep they always used to do that. When I was a student and rented a telly from somewhere, the b'stards grassed me up. They'll probably get an annual kickback for keeping the licensing people in the loop.

Thread revival alert

Updating the salvaged/crashed M list, came across this and by a process of elimination worked out the number plate was AF56LHD. Confusing though as that seems to still be on the road :?

Ouch, I wouldn't want to find out that was my car's past!
Seems there was another rather nasty crash at combe on Saturday. I was due to go but ended up at Hullavington luckily. I can't imagine they opened the track again after that happened.
