Great clay results

Had a day off work today so I decided to clay and polish the zed, seeing as how I feel like I have neglected it in the last few months as a result of working away from home and all the bad weather at the weekends. I used the Meguirs clay again, i like it becasue it softens quickly and seems to do a nice job. I used the Dodo juice as a lube and washed it again afterwards with AG. Finally, a coat of carnuba wax and it looks the mutts. I might do the TT tomorrow if the weather holds and my wrist recovers.... .
Its hard to get good pics of the shine on a silver car but here are some pictures of the results.

Very nice, love the wheels too.
THANKS, The wheels seem to be a love em or hate em thing. I love em but I am seriously considering a set of 108s but cant find a good set for sensible money at the mo.

Very nice results indeed, and +1 on the wheels. You're making my guilt levels increase dramatically though Z4alfie. I haven't cleaned my car in about 2 months due to the weather/broken shoulder :(

Just have to go for the Mad Max look a little while longer I guess, but you have inspired me!

Very tidy Z4 and those wheels look like new top work mate get yourself a beer

Shame your french fries fell off :(

Broken shoulder is a poor excuse fella, it only takes one arm to polish

Clean wheels = happy Alfie. I use AG alloy wheel seal on them regularly and they take no cleaning afterwards.

Oh and the french fries were surgically extracted, once I took the plunge I felt much better :D

After reading your post and seeing your Z afterwards I ran out and purchased the clay...only its december now and averaging about 40 degrees F. Im hearing from all my friends that a job like that needs to wait until spring. I have already given her a good coat of wax..what are your thoughts guys? I dont have the option of garage for the winter...its my only car...thx :headbang:

After looking at your post and pics I went to Halfords and bought a Meguiar's Quik Clay Detailing System http://www.theultimatefinish.co.uk/meguiars/quik-clay-detailing-system.aspx and was a bit scared to use it on the paint work at first. However with a bright eyed and slow fiorst attempt at detailing I was amazed how easy it was. The results are the best I have ever known. In the past with previous cars I have used T-cut etc and the results were rubbish when I think back now. This clay kit removes tiny marks, grime, tar and light circular scratches with ease. After detailing the whole car in approx 1 hour and then waxing it for around 45 mins in now looks mint! Thanks to your post, everyone should buy some clay and detail their car!!!!!! Well worth the time and effort. Just need to get my wheels as clean as your now. What did you use and how did you get the calipers as clean as that? Paint?

Glad you took the plunge. There is some sort of psychology that needs to be overcome in using clay for the first time. Results are amazing, glad you are a convert. I used a decent ally wheel cleaner and apply AG alloy wheel seal after every wash, particularly with the salty roads that we havew had of late. I painted the calipers with Hammerite smoothrite (didnt remove them just took the wheels off and and used brake cleaner to de grease then painted them carefully) must have done a few thousand miles since and they look as good as they did on day one.

That's another job to do whilst it garaged over winter......... Smoothrite is now on my shopping list. Silver grey.
I took my wheels off to clean the back of the alloys and have applied Autoglym alloy wheel seal to the rear and front of each alloy. They look like new now... I have also fitted some plastic chrome cover caps over the black BMW wheel niuts just to finish it off. I am not usually a fan of chrome add on etc.....but in this case they look ok. £4.99 off ebay for 20 caps.

While you are on with the Smoothrite you might want to paint the hubs on the discs, I did mine as despite them being nearly new, they had developed rust stains. The Smoothrite was undetectable from the original finsish and has remained as good as new plus, with the calipers in the same finish mde the whole job look great. The only thing is to be sure the paint has dried completely before refitting the wheel.

Yep good idea....took 2 coats on the hub as rust stains came through but looks the business now.

Roll on summer.....and warmth again! :fuelfire:
