GPS recommendations for fall 2010?

All,

I'm in the market for a new portable GPS unit (US maps) and would like some recommendations. I plan to install the unit on a Brodit clip on the dash of my Z4, so it will not be directly against the windshield. My old Mio C310 unit never had a problem with getting a signal in such circumstances. They no longer offer map updates, and it lacks many features of the new units, so it's time to upgrade. Anyone had problems with their GPS unit in such a dash location? How fast is your GPS unit in giving traffic updates? Some are better than others.

I'm looking for a unit that announces the street name; offers lane assist; and offers timely, free traffic updates. Free map updates and/or voice-activated navigation would be great, but not required.

I'm reading numerous websites for consumer/expert reviews, but there is such vast sea of GPS manufacturers and models today, I'm not making much progress thus far.

Thanks,

WiseGuy
