GPS module

Well my car had me many many miles away from where I actually was, and had no satellites at all. Today I changed the GPS module above the rear view mirror.

Still no satellites :headbang: will see if it gets better when out for a drive, having only just had battery woes I'm loathed to leave it searching. Hoping it works as otherwise it's the other end of the cable....and I've seen the amount of work it took some friendly forum folk to fit my intravee!

I did wimp out of pulling my light out & removed the whole centre trim - gave me the chance to lube a few bits up & hopefully stop one of the creaks.

Hmm, I fancy a Thai

How did you join the new module to the existing cable?

The GPS module has an additional connection up there, so simply pull one module off and add the new one push fits straight on - wasn't trying to use bullet connectors after stripping wires or anything daft :D

Also installed (well stuck to the window :P ) a new 0806S dash cam as the std 0806 was having battery issues & beeping constantly ever few days - new battery can be installed but beyond my ability....if you want a project I can throw it in the post for you to tinker with. The 0806S has a super capacitor in it rather than a battery.

Thai does sound good :)

Mine wouldn't find satellites. It was a damaged Ariel. Bought one from eBay and fine now.

 thanks - hadn't really thought about the new module being faulty....had it in my man drawer for about 18 months, so no refunds but only £5.

Might also have been my testing method of lazily leaving the car in the garage and holding the module out the garage so it could see sky

Not sure how long these take to lock on from new.

If you go into the hidden menu you can look to see if you can get a fix on any satellites . Do a google or search the forum for this but I think it's the menu button held in for about 8 seconds.

Thanks - had done this before, but was also convinced the rather low res dots around the satellite showed them too - no real idea if they correlate though

If you get the dots then it's seems the gps is working, but the hidden menu shows each satellite gps co ordinates . My father in laws sat nav had similar symptoms and in the end we pulled the DVD/ sat nav modules to a place in Leeds I think for repair. It's been fine ever since, but he also replaced the gps for a different unit off eBay, and it now lock on much better. We put the new gps in the same compartment as the DVD but hidden at the top out of sight.
