GPS advice

Hi everyone

Keen to hear some experiences with gps devices.

I have always been using google maps, and more recently Waze (due to the camera alerts).

Thus I am now looking to replace with a dedicated GPS. I have been looking at the garmin 2597 as well as the TomTom 500

The mist important factors to be are accurate live traffic and a good camera database (ideally live as with Waze but not sure that exists...).

Does anyone have any good or bad experiences with any of these devices?
 
I am a Tomtom man. Its been through France with me and never skipped a beat. All the speed cameras were there and the live traffic seems to work. But how can you tell?!
 
I have TomTom and the Garmin and they both have downsides:

TomTom - Good:

- Routing

TomTom - Bad:

- Speed of calculating


Garmin - Good:

- Free upgrades for life (does TomTom do this now???)
- Camera locations included free

Garmin - Bad:

- Routing; On known routes it sends me the weirdest ways sometimes and can not get it to go the route I want sometimes.

I use my IPhone with Waze and i cant fault it,

It does take you some weird ways like yoiu say but they are always faster so i dont mind so much.

IMO its much better having to go over speed bumps than be stuck in a traffic jam which is moving slowly, your clutch foot (if you have a manual) prefers it as well :)

Not much use i know but thats my 2pence worth :)
