Gower road trip, worth it?

I’m thinking of doing a road trip,and staying a few days soon, driving around and walking the beaches etc.
I walked all around the coast in 2017 for a charity fund raiser and have been promising to take SWMBO ever since!
Is it worth the trip with the speed limits being so low?
Any recommendations for good B&Bs to stay and any good roads to drive please?

The 20mph isn't that bad mostly in towns and some of the villages, Gower nice for the coast and beaches, further West is Tenby and Saundersfoot. Brecon Beacons has some interesting roads to explore we often take a run from Merthyr and use a short stretch of the new Heads of the Valley road then turn right at Hiwaun then through Penderyn, passing the Distillery onwards to join the A470 towards Brecon but turn off left towards Sennybridge on the A4215. Hang a left at Sennybridge onto the A40 towards Trecastle carry on to Llywel and turn right on the second Llywel turn onto the Military Road and follow to Tirabad, this road crosses the Military Training Grounds, some great scenery and roads. From Tirabad head to Llangammarch Wells then onwards to join the A483 turning right and head to Builth Wells for a stop by the river in the town. If your returning South from Builth follow the signs from Builth and use the B4520 passing through Upper and Lower Chapel ending up in Brecon.

Any recommendations as to some good B&Bs anyone? But nothing to extravagant.

Colb is absolutely bang on , follow his advice and you won't go to far wrong. My favourite beaches are Saundersfoot and Tenby. Have a great trip to Wales.

I'm often down there since my girlfriend is from Swansea and her parents live in the Gower. Some of the best beaches I've ever visited are there (highly subjective), I especially like the quieter ones that require a bit of a walk to get to such as Broughton Bay (2 photos attached from last week) and Whiteford Sands.

Gower is not the best place for driving, it's busy, tight, heavily policed, and the nicer roads are all 40mph. But you'd be ~1hr from very good driving roads such as the Black Mountain Pass and surrounding roads. Enjoy!

Tenby is a wonderful place to kick off from. We stayed at the Imperial Hotel. Great location, but I bit tired.

If you are going to Gower then Three Cliffs bay is worth a visit. Further west, Saundersfoot is a good place to stay for a couple of nights but I would wait until the kids go back to school.

Thanks @Boyo , yes three cliffs bay was on my radar to visit. Hoping to walk a lot of the beautiful coastline around there.
Just need to find some decent local B&Bs.

Hi @colb des this look like the correct route that you described?
I just spent hours looking for my Brecon map and went back to the first place I looked and it was there under something!
Now realising it’s far easier to do it online.

I’d say it’s definitely worth the trip, even with the low speed limits, it actually makes the drive more relaxed and gives you time to take in the views. When I went a couple of years back, I stayed in a little family run B\&B just outside the main town and it made a big difference compared to the bigger places, much friendlier and proper home-cooked breakfasts. If you can, stick to the coastal routes; they’re slower but the scenery is amazing and you’ll end up stopping often anyway just to get out and take it in.

RMB, Your last edited map is the route I suggested taking in the Military Road across the Beacons, makes a nice run.
