I use a 3.5 tonne trolley jack and axle stands. put the wheels under the too.

Have learned the hard way in getting my jacking technique down. Ooer missus.

However, jacking up each corner individually will always have the effect of producing positional assymetry and making the car 'twist' upwards, introducing a risk of slippage. i.e. it's better to jack up the front corners at the same time (incrementally @ about 1-2cm each side) using the cars own jack and a trolley jack for the other side until the required height is achieved. Then same for the rear. Even better is to incrementally raise front and rear if using jackstands so that angles are kept to a minimum. Takes a bit longer but this is my preferred method and car always feels rock solid once all corners are on stands.
