I've not run a front plate for years and within a week or so of taking the one off the front of the Z and I get pulled :headbang: Starting to wonder whether this car is cursed :wink:

He was alright as it goes, I explained that my number plate surround had started to come away so before it could fall off and become road debris I removed it completely, just haven't got around to riveting it back on yet - sorry officer :|

He explained that I should get it sorted asap as considering ANPR etc it could be construed as Perverting the Course of Justice. He then went on to compliment the car asking how it went? :driving:

Bottom line, no fine :thumbsup:

I've had various dealings with the BIB with various cars over the years and I've not got a bad word to say. If you are polite and don't try to mug them off they are generally a good bunch. And a lot of the time Traffic Police are Traffic Police because they too are petrol heads. I'll feel a little better seeing my council tax go out of my account this month :)

i bought a used car a few years back, had it insured and taxed on the saturday i bought it by the guy who i bought it from. on the sunday i got followed and pulled by an unmarked police car. the officer said it wasnt taxed, i said he might want to check that. so he walked around the front to the tax disc, saw it and then pointed to the front number plate and said it was illegal. i said i had just bought the car the day before and obviously hadnt had the time to change it. i even had my v5c with me. but like a prick he didnt listen and just issued me with a fixed penalty notice.

so although most are fine, you do get the occasional knob end as well which ends up ruining it for all of them

Younger drivers don't really get treated the same especially if seen in a nice car.
 
I have never been pulled over in a BMW. In my Saxo day :oops: I was fair game :(

It is nice when you come across a sensible copper though. Tends to normally be the case if you listen to them and don't go defensive or spout a load of crap at them.
 
I'm 38 but most guess my age at about late twenties 8)

Honestly, I really believe that 99% of them are fine. You show the slightest bit of attitude and they will give you it back, and so would I if I was in their shoes.

Xmas 2010 I had decided to take the RX7 out, had to do a run between the outlaws and my family so thought I'd treat myself. So bought some tax online and took it out. So no front plate, no tax disc, the car is covered in sponsorship logos etc, and it sounds like a jet fighter (very little to no silencing)

Anyway I'm going north up the M1 just out of Luton. Traffic is quite busy and some prat isn't helping by travelling in the middle lane at 50-60mph. He is creating mayhem, some people are going up behind him, flashing, then undertaking, some are cutting across all three lanes in front of him. But he just sits there. So I figure I'd give it a go. The car looks quite menacing from the front so figure if he'll move over for anyone it would be me, then at least the traffic chaos behind us can sort it self out. Anyway so I keep my distance and flash. Nothing. Go a bit closer, flash. Nothing. Flash a few more times, then frantically. Nothing :x So now I'm mad (I know silly but inconsiderate prats like this get to me) So I throw it down a cog, hoon up the inside of him, mouth abuse over at him, then floor it past. Next thing I know the rear of my car is lighting up with blue flashing lights :o Unmarked old bill had been behind me the whole time watching :? Anyway first thing I did was apologise saying I know it was silly, but the guy was causing mayhem and his inconsiderate attitude made me see red, but I know its no excuse. Anyway to cut an already long story a bit shorter he went on to say although the guy was also in the wrong it was a silly thing to do, "calm it down" And off I went :thumbsup:

So I get caught pulling an undertaking move in a car with no tax disc displayed, no front plate and covered in graphics and no ticket. Its because I treat them with respect, I'm obviously fully insured, taxed, MOt'd, although the car stood out it was obviously well looked after and maintained. So they use their discretion and figured it was a one off and considering the prat in the middle lane understood my frustration. Probably helps I have squeaky clean driving history and have never been known to the police so don't appear on their PNC check :)

Two key words that have been mentioned to bear in mind when you get caught by the plod. Honesty, and respect. Show them both of these and you will get off far lighter than trying it on with an attitude.
 
I was pulled in my Clio Williams a good few years back and was dropping my girlfriend off(now my wife) it was less than a mile from our both houses.
There was a load of police pulling cars just after the only roundabout and lay-by on the road doing spot checks, and I hadn't pulled my seatbelt on, late night quick run round the road(no excuse). Explained this to the sergeant and he wrote me out a Hort1 and I got fine (no points) and apologised to me as they had an exercise on. I told him he was only doing his job and it was my fault.
I got a letter 8 weeks later saying due to paperwork problems I didn't need to pay fine (I had already!)
I took letter and my receipt and got a cheque back for £20.
I still have it somewhere :rofl:
The PC had wrote the wrong date by 10 years in the future on purpose due to me being nice but had to be seen to do me by his collegue(sp) :thumbsup:
 
Lucky escape.

Never been pulled in the Zed, but been pulled several times on bikes over the years and have alsways adopted the Yes Sir, No Sir attitude despite what I was Thinking at the time.
On the M27 one day going to catch a Ferry hear sirens look behind me see the flashing lights and pull over,
I was pulled because of a small plate, whilst he's walking round the bike he asks where's the Tax Disc. This is when the light inside my head goes on. 'It's on the Mantlepiece at home' he then asks where I'm going so I tell him.

Long and the short of it is he could have done me for a small plate, illegal race exhaust and failure to display, but like you because I was polite and treated him with respect he let me on my way with nothing more than an enjoy your holiday.

Is the front plate going back on?
 
Have had both good and not so good experience with Traffic cops, Once pulled over in my old POS rover I had for speeding on the motorway at 10pm, And like most people I am polite and honest, told him I had been away working up north for 3 days and should have been home at 5 but due to an over run at work and an accident outside inverness had me held me up I was hungry and wanted to get home to my Wife who had been left alone with 2 kids under five before I was back out the next morning for another 3 days, apologized and said no excuse I know. Got a let off.

Pulled over for one of rear lights not working, same attitude again, apologetic, car had passed mot a week earlier had not checked it since then, will get it sorted asap officer.
Asshole stood there and gave me lecture with a very condecending voice, his fellow asshole was scrutinising my car. one tyre was illegal on the inside rim due to poor alignment, Breathalised, sat in back of cop car, given ticket, and then said have a nice day to me, as I had already got my ticket I said to both of them So which one of you two is the giver then.

I am of the opinion that even if you are a nice guy to the cop, if he is a tosser then your F**ked.
 
When I had just passed my test at 17, got pulled in my mums land rover defender. apparently the number plate looked suspicious (it was a private plate :tumbleweed: ). Anyhow, I'd literally just passed, so didn't have a green plastic or a pink plastic, just a certificate while i was waiting for my full licence to come in the post. This resulted in a Jonesy moment from dads army, where I kept shouting "DONT PANIC" in my head.

The dvla were closed at the time, as it was rather late, so they made my sister drive from southampton to winchester to evidence my pass certificate, I kinda think that one was a control freak. Another time one in an unmarked skoda on the motorway was playing silly buggers with my dad when he had a db9. kept boxing him in and speeding up on his inside so he couldn't move over (i was there and can vouch) so he put his foot down to get away, moved over to the inside lane to allow the skoda to overtake and got pulled for doing 78. Got let off with a warning. those, thankfully, and touch wood, are the only two experiences I've ever had with traffic police, and i wouldn't say they were the most likeable chaps!
 
My daughter had a accident and smacked in the front of her car - it was stuck on our drive for a few days afterwards - breaking her heart each time she saw it so I decided to move it to the car park where I worked so she wouldn't have to see it . clearly not roadworthy but waited till the following Sunday morning when it was quiet and drove it the 4 miles along quiet roads to the car park - and yes sods law comes in to effect the last half mile and a police car follows me the rest of the way in to the private car park. I get a lecture telling me I'm looking at a stack of points/fines etc but then told " take this as a slapped wrist on this occasion " and warns me that when I move it agan I must use a trailer. When I recounted this story to a police friend he asked what time this happened and said this would have been just before they went off duty and probably couldn't be assed to do all the papework!!

I got pulled over a about 15 years ago after overtaking a marked police car on a dual carriage way, I was doing 70+ in a 40mph zone whilst arguing with the GF (current Mrs Hutch). 23 years old in a Mk3 Cavalier SRi, usually driven with front fogs on, so hot target.

Anyway flew past it as I hadn't seen it being distracted by the argument, looked in my rear view mirror, SHITE! what have I over taken, GF looks, "A Police Car" she says, one with lights and stripes. Anyway I back off (no braking) and continue for half a mile or so to the next roundabout. Round the roundabout and off the other side. This is when the blue lights come on, so I pull over straight away.

Copper get out and comes over, his first words were "Do you need to wear glasses or do we need bigger stripes". He asked me how fact was I going to which I said 70 (no pint in trying to lie). He proceeded to give me a lecture then let me go, suggesting I take my GF out for a meal as it would be cheaper than the £60 fine he could have given me.
 
I was checking what the holes looked like under my front plate today as I've bought a new reg. the next thing I know the v750 came in the post, so i went to the DVLA to get the registration transferred and walking back to the car realised I hadn't put my plate back on. Plan on not running one until my new plates come (Monday or Tuesday)
 
I got pulled in a KFC drive thru....
Seriously, in the Clio V6, had just got some grub and me and the missus are sat in a parking space munching away. A shatstra panda car goes past and the guy is nearly breaking his neck to look at us. He turns round at the next roundabout and no word of a lie, hits the full blues & twos, comes barreling into the carpark and actually screeches to a halt right behind me to prevent me driving out the space - now bear in mind that I'm halfway through a family bucket with s**t everywhere, engine & lights are off. I wind down the window an the guys first words are "what are you two doing". Christ, he was asking for it - so I had to respond "erm, what the f**k does it look like?". Anyway he didn't take to kindly to that and suffice to say the remainder of dinner went cold whilst he performed every check possible... When he left, having found nothing amiss, he actually said "now drive safe" - the car had not moved during this whole time... So I guess it's like any walk of life you get good guys and tossers, this particular bloke was well and truly in the latter camp.

once, I was a muppet who tried to undertake a van who'd been p**sing me off for a while on a roundabout.... he cut me up causing me to have to brake and lock up (all this in a 1989 Astra 1.3L)... next thing I know is the blue lights pulling me over. that was a dog van. Checked me out, I apologised and he let me go. Not sure whether the IAM badge on the front made any difference...

second time was because I took a defensive driving position because the car behind looked to be trying an overtake on a blind bend... 5s later the blue come on :o I hadn't even gotten out of the car after stopping before the driver was out and yanking my door open asking what the ***l I thought I was doing when he was on a shout! I calmly explained that it was a blind bend and was giving myself some room to react to anything and that he hadn't actually had any cirens or lights on.... He stormed back off and went on his way...

I have not yet seen that in action, though it seems to be the unfortunately truth. I am not much more than 19 and driving my own Zed, and I've never been pulled over. Maybe because I'm :driving: like an angel, ALL THE TIME :evil:
