Got One

I just wanted to let everyone know that i took the plunge on Saturday and signed on the line for a 2006 MR, it has great speck and is in excellent condition.
Just a question, has anyone else struggled pairing their phones with the Bluetooth in the car? Any advice/tips would be appreciated.

For people out there who not sure about the m's, please try one, the clutch is not that heavy, the fuel consumption is only bad when nailing it (33mpg on the M6/M5 in stop - start traffic including a little blast with a boxster). What a car.

Pics coming once it's clean. I'm to busy driving it at the mo :driving:

33mpg in an M? Doesn't sound believable, I'm afraid! I get 32mpg in my 3.0i and 90% of my driving is 60+mph.

Personally, damn it! I made a choice to take the fiscally responsible path about a month ago. Should have never test driven them. :x

Anyway, to your's, sounds great! Could not agree with the above more, the whole package is just amazing, and possibly the last of its kind. Enjoy*

Just one thing, "please try one", bad idea - leads to either a dent in the wallet or a dent in the soul.

Mmmmm.

Have to agree, I was in london last week and from a standstill, went up to 2k rpm in 1st, 2k rpm in 2nd, then 2k rpm in 3rd, finishing therefore at about 30mph.

Having reset the computer at a standstill, I was showing 14.4mpg - I couldn't have pressed the pedal much lighter

the car sounds amazing. i saw a nice silver Z4M Roadster for sale outside the aston martin dealership in wilmslow on saturday, looked nice and looked a reasonable 19995.00, even looked good amongst the sexy astons. They also had a new white vantage V12 inside the dealership - i did a little sex wee as i drove past !

as for the general comments regarding fuel on this forum, and especially regarding the M models, i cannot understand why people buy a peformance car and then complain about fuel ? surely this is expected. Its like buying a z4 and then complaining that its not good enough for getting a flat-pack ikea wardrobe in it? its must all be fairly obvious - or is it me ?

+1, fuel is such a small portion of the overall running costs... and they are sports cars with big engines - given that I think they do incredibly well :)

On the day I picked mine up back in November I drove up from the coast to heathrow, and driving like a saint I got 30.7mpg as shown here:

Normal service now resumed though and the OBC is showing 26.9 from a mix of driving.

You could get it to show 5MPG over that distance if you wanted it to. :) Doesn't mean anything.

Take it easy on a long run and 27MPG in mine, 30MPG if I keep it under 70. In town I get 20-22, bit less if I am thrashing it.

But as above, I don't care, if I did I would have a 120d...at least it's not an M6 doing 12MPG! Then it would be a problem.

Fair play guys, it looks like i am going to have to prove this one....... or they swapped my 3246cc with a 2000c. Pic to follow :D

I agree with the comments above and if I was bothered about MPG, I would have bought a 320d, the reason for the MPG comment is that after speaking with several dealers, and looking at reviews from popular mags’ etc they all slate it and it was a concern for me "is it really that bad"?

The point I am trying to make is to potential owners that may be scared off. It isn't that bad. Until you put your foot down where the fun is.
After a weekend of driving it now reads 14.3 MPG :P is that better?

you didnt drive it like you own it for the wknd - more like you stole it!!!

I let it warm up to 75 C and then do as I please, it sits around 21 mpg and mways seem to make little difference

Re the bluetooth bit, I had problems with the bluetooth on my latest nokia, i couldn't answer an incoming call, even if i pressed the phone, the damned car kept ringing !!! and it would randomly drop... was going to take it back to the main dealer, but tried my previous phone, which works fine... looks like it may have trouble with the brand new models maybe?

Welcome, sounds like you've bought a great car

MPG varies greatly depending on how you drive it. I've had 34. something on a run from liverpool to Stow on the Wold, early morning, 70ish all the way. But the average sits at about 22-23 MPG. My first phone was a Nokia and that paired every time no probs. current phone is a Samsung and that can be a little tempremental pairing up. I always thought Nokias paired up easier with BMW bluetooth.

Yea I'm not bothered either.. Christ I'm just ringing around for my Inspection II, so a few MPG here and there doesn't bother me.

Just a niggle in my mind from another thread of having a different ECU Map.. worries me when people say they get 30+ easily.

Mikedav - you're absolutely correct of course, but I was in fact giving it such weak throttle I was aiming for the highest mpg I could.. & still got 14. Might have to devise some sort of test to put this to bed once & for all... or just drive someone else's.

WRT Bluetooth, which phone do you have? Sounds like a fab car, welcome to the club !

Thank you all, and Andy thank you for your comments recently (pm) very helpful.

I have a blackberry Storm 9500, I have been really trying the dealer said it would be easy, but they just wont pair, the phone searches but cant find anything. :?

sounds great, congrats :driving:

Congrats!!

But i dont believe the MPG figure you have stated. I do M6 stop-start each morning to/from work. I get on at Junction 10 and leave at Junction 6. 15 miles of gridlock..

Best i can get out of my 3.0i is 25mpg. Once i was stuck for 90 minutes and the MPG counter was 14MPG!!!!!111 :headbang:

I'm still getting 28.2 MPG here, with an occassional rise to 28.5 :). This is according to OBC and since mid-July 2009 (roughly 10,000 miles or so). It's returning only 2-3MPG(3mpg worst case) than my 3.0Si did using it in the same way (same journeys)
My driving is mostly country lane A roads, a few trips round busy London and trips to sunny Devon once every 3-4 weeks. ANd hardly any journeys are short journeys.
Comparing both my M with previous Si Coupe, the Si COupe gave slightly worse economy than the BMW suggested figure, but the M is actually returning much better MPG than the BMW suggested figure (in my hands anyway ) :)

And yes, I do drive it hard sometimes, but pretty good at understanding the road ahead so plan my driving to suit (ie, I don't slam on the brakes hard when I approach traffic). And even when driving slowly I still tend to accelerate quickly, it's an old habit form driving older cars. If you accelerate too slowly the car can run on a rich mixture, accelerating with about 3/4 throttle produces a better air/fuel mixture. I'm not sure that is the case with modern cars though
